Any way to clear the HD and re-install 98 fresh?

Sure. If you have the "Upgrade" version, all you need is some previous operating system to use as the verification. Win95, or even Win3.1 discs will be OK. Win 98 will ask you for proof of a prior version to see if you are "eligible" for upgrading. Just insert the Win3.1 or Win95 discs and follow the prompts. The "Upgrade" version of most Operating Systems are really a full version as long as you have a previous versions discs.

Hi Darrell,
Don't want to 'upgrade ........ just reformat - start fresh - same HD, same PC, same Win 98 disc.
In XP you can reformat by booting from the XP disc or Administator in control panel or right click 'My Computor, then select manage .....can't find the trick with Win 98.
Thanks ,
Randy
As far as I know, the only way to do that would be to simply format the disc and then install Win98 fresh. (Which can be done with the upgrade version of Win98 as long as you have a previous OS). Kind of the same thing, I guess, but different way to get there. ;-) End result should be the same, a new and fresh install.
Darrell
Thanks for being patient,
I'm either over explaining or under explaining, what it is I would like to accomplish (smile)
> "simply format the disc"
That's the part I can't figure out.
Randy
Hi Randy,
To format and install Win98, do the following:
-Insert your Win98 CD, and resart the computer
-You'll want to make sure your BIOS is configured to boot from the CD
-When the Win98 boot screen comes up, choose: 'start computer with CDROM support'
This will get you booted into a DOS prompt. From here, you'll need to change drives to your CD-Rom drive:
-type: D:\ (Enter)
-type: cd\win98 (Enter)
-type: format C: (Enter)
After this is completed, you'll need to get into the Win98 setup program, to do this, type Setup and press enter.
Hope this helps :)

Actually, I think I just found a good walkthrough for it... check out this link:
http://www.windowsreinstall.com/win9...exfullpage.htm
This link tells you that you need a floppy disk, but you don't really need it as long as you can set your BIOS to boot from the CD-ROM drive.

Thanks a bunch Jason,
That's what I needed - I must not have got my boot sequence in bios set for the CD boot (I thought I did).
Will try again tomorrow, and let you know.
Appreciated,
Randy
Guess we were on two different "wave" links! :-)
