Thread: Direct x or Catalyst driver for ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

  1. Default Direct x or Catalyst driver for ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

I bought an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb video card and will install it soon. Is it better to use the Direct X or Catalyst driver, or does it matter? I have never installed one before. Does anyone have any advice on things I should or shouldn't do in the process?

Dell 4600, Intel Pentium(4) 2.8 GHz, 512MB Ram, 80GB hard drive, Windows XP.

    Thank you,
    Bruce Keyes

DirectX is not a video driver, but more of a system component that is required of most games - more likely than not, it's already on your system.. The Catalyst drivers are the official ATI releases for their video cards.. Both will be installed with the card if needed, although if you're running FS9 already, then you definitely have DirectX installed.. I'm running DirectX 9.0C and the ATI Catalyst 4.9 drivers..
