Thread: Frame rate problem

  1. Default Frame rate problem

    Everything was fine until about a week ago. Now I periodically get drops in framerates for no reason. (FS2002) In full screen mode, if I apply the brakes or pause the game, the framerates drop from 35 to 25. As soon as the "red" brakes message goes off, the framerates go back to 35. It also only does this in the cockpit view. If I switch view and apply brakes(brake message appears)no hit on framerates. I had this same problem with my old GF4 Ti 4200 128MB card. When I installed my FX 5700 128MB and new drivers (53.03), the problem went away. I noticed this problem after installing windows critical updates. It may just be a coincident. I have uninstalled drivers, cleaned out old drivers and installed drivers again. No change. I even uninstalled Norton Snti-Virus and removed all of the registry entries. This did not help. I have not reinstalled Directx. I have heard that if you reinstall Directx, that you should reinstall your drivers. I dodn't know if this is true or not.

    Does anyone have any ideas or have you had a similar experience. I would appreciate it.

    Did you install the SP1 when you did the critical updates? That could have an effect on framerates. Also there was the update that fixed the DirectX hole, which might cause some trouble. The best thing I can tell you to delete the .cfg file and if that doesn't work reinstall FS2002.

    I have already done all of those things. No change. It is just strange that any message on the screen in "red" causes framrates to drop.

    Hi, Ken

    Try to defragment your HD.

    Hi Ken,
    Sounds weird but you can turn the brake message off to see if it is just the image, or the actual braking process causing the framerate drop. This 'fix' will still allow you to brake, but the message doesn't come up on screen. Taken from the FS2004 FAQ:

    14. How do I remove the brake message from the screen?
    Add the following line to the (SIM) section of the f9.cfg file:

    show_brake_message=0

    Let me know how ya got on....[center]

    That gets rid of the framerate hit. Using the brakes without the message does not cause a framerate hit. But if you pause the game, and the "red" message that say "paused" appears, then I get a framerate hit again.

    It is the strangest thing that I have ever seen.
