Thread: Upgrade advice

  1. Default Upgrade advice

Hi, I've been having all kinds of problems even with a default FS9 install:

    http://www.flightsim.com/dcforum/DCForumID21/13477.html

so I've decided to upgrade my hardware, do a fresh install of XP home, then install FS9. This has to cure my problems. :-)

I'm going from a 2.4ghz intel cpu, asus p4pe mb, 1gb ram, 80mb ide hd, and 300 watt ps, to a 3.2ghz intel cpu, asus p4p800 mb, 1gb ram, 80mb ata hd, and 400 watt antec ps. I'll keep my ati 9800 pro.

Am I doing anything wrong here? Is this pretty much top of the line or can I get more bang for my buck? Any suggestions appreciated! Thx.

    rgds,
    billg

Sounds and looks good- you never know until you try!

I would suggest that you try and limit the amount of programs that you have running in the background while running the Sim.

You might want to read some of the threads concerning different types of RAM in the market out there. Some RAM types, not necessarily size, seems to make the system run better?

    Good luck!

thx Javelin. Good advice about the RAM. And this is a dedicated FS9 computer so have FS Nav etc. but otherwise nothing. And I shut down the services I don't need too.
