Default Help! FS2004 Freeze's shortly after starting flight.

FS2004 and CFS3 both freeze up shortly after starting a flight. System will lock with vedio still displayed and loud buzzing coming from speakers.
    System info:
MSI KT6V, AMD 3200XP, SATA 120 HDD, 1gig pc3200 ram, Processor and memory set to 400mhz, ATI 9800 Pro, Audigy 2ZS, Logitech Wingman Force Feedback USB and Microsoft Natural Multimedia Keyboard.
    Software:
Fresh reload of Windows XP Home Edition with all current Critical Updates/Patches. All drivers current OEM and downloaded from Manufacturer sites (MSI/VIA/ATI/Creative). All software XP and Sims store bought. Other active software = Norton AV2k3.
Previous system specs were the same except for MB which was MSI K7N2G with 2400XP running all same components and software (Same Memory except system maxed out at 333 FSB). Said goodbye to system board as I was talking on the phone while surfing the MSI live bios page.
First expirenced with CFS3 after reload. Just bought CFS3 3 days ago, so I'm stuck between the current memory speed and a CFS3 component. Suspect CFS3, as FS2004 ran fine on old system. Only problems before were from addon software I did not properly install.

Any suggestions here would be greatly appreciated.

When you say drivers, do you mean also the MOBO controller chip drivers, i.e., Intel, VIA, SiS, AMD, ALi, NForce? Indications are that VIA 4-in-1 drivers are needed for this board. Also did you disable the on-board sound when you installed the Audigy?

    Hi W. Sieffert,

Since I have been trying to solve the same problem (forever) as the poster, I thought I'd ask about this:
I have updated vid drivers & bios (still working on mobo chips)as well as upgrading to DX9b. Tried bringing the sound acceleration down in DX diag. as well. Still freezes with weird squeeling noises as mentioned above. (I have an audigy x-gamer 5.1, but also onboard sound)
Now in my bios, the only thing I see is "AC97 Sound Controller" - enable/disable. Do you think this is referencing the onboard sound?? I have it disabled. If not, where alse would you disable it from?
    Thanks much for your thoughts..:7

p.s. Heat is not an issue - I have 3 different monitors (bios, ASUS, AIDA) all telling me my temps are well within the norm for CPU/MOBO/Case, as well as digital readouts on my case panel and fan speed controls. (also have 3 extra case fans)

    AMD Athlon XP3000+
    ASUS A7N8X2.0 nvidia nForce2 Ultra 400 mobo (1007 bios)
ATI Radeon 9600 pro, 128mb (tried cat 3.9's and cat 3.10's, unsuccesfully)
    512 PC3200 ddr
    WINXP Pro (dx9b)

Initially loaded drivers from CD packaged with MB. During final Windows patch downloads, I downloaded and installed lastest Via drivers from Via Tech Drivers site, 4.51's I beleive. On-board sound is disabled as well as other IRQ hogs like on board modem. Still thinking memory speed here, going to back down the 400 setting to 333 and attempt to duplicate the crash. FSB currently running 400 also, but will underclock the processor if I bring it down, is this correct?

Is the On-board AC97 Modem feature also disabled or are you using this modem?

Otherwise, you might want to remove the Audigy card temporarily, enable the on-board sound and see if you have the same problems. It could be that the Audigy is causing the problems.

Visit www.msi.com.tw and look at the updates for your MOBO. I notice they have a new BIOS that removes memory overclocking and they recommend users update to that version. I don't know if this will fix your problem. I would ensure you downloaded the BIOS version you are using presently in case you don't like the update.

It does seem you may be pushing the memory speed!

Nope, the AC97 modem feature is NOT disabled, but I will try that first before taking out the Audigy. Way to keep me jumping buddy! :7
