Default 5900XT Owners - Tell Us What You Think Of Your Card

Owners of a 5900XT, I would like to hear from you regarding this card and FS2004. How do you like the card? How does it perform? Any feedback would be great.

I just ordered a MSI FX5900 XT-VTD128, so when I get it next week I will post my findings. I currently own a 5600 Ultra, really looking forward to seeing the difference between the cards.

I just ordered an upgrade for my old (gasp!) Ti4200 card that's been running a P4 2.26GHz system. I've been researching video card information for several weeks now and will share with you my $.02 on the issue... you may or may not find it informative.

It is difficult to find specific FS9 benchmarks out there, but I did find some on Tomshardware.com dated from last fall. You won't see the 5900XT (aka: GeForce FX 5900SE) here:

In most benchmarks I've seen out there, the 5900XT performs (when overclocked) to within about 90% of the GeForce 5900/5950 Ultra listed above. In all the benchmarks out there comparing the GeForce to the ATI, it's about a 50/50 tossup on which GPUs performs better. It all depends on the applications/games used. In our case with FS9, ATI wins. As seen in so many other game bencharks with 128MB vs. 256MB cards in the ATIs listed above, there is little difference except at the highest resolution settings. This argument has been going on for years, from 8MB vs. 16MB, 32MB vs. 64MB, 64MB vs. 128MB, and now with 128MB vs. 256MB... apparently there is never software written for the time that takes advantage of the increased GPU memory of the time. Go figure.

However, I use more than FS9, so I will probably still go with the EVGA GeForce FX 5900SE. Right now it's the best bang for your buck for under $200 and can be overclocked to nearly equal the 5900/5950 Ultra listed above. Your milage may vary, but I'll post my results/comments when my order from newegg.com comes in!

I ordered an MSI 5900XT from TechData and it should be here early next week. I will also post my findings, I had a 5600 Ultra but now it is gone. Currently using the built-in Video Card that came with my board. I think NVidia cards will really shine when Doom3 comes out, a lot of people might jump ship again since the game has a huge following.

    I like that.

It's refreshing to see one aspect of computers where the hardware is actually ahead of the software! And usually seems to be!
