Default Does anyone have a system that works properly???

Has anyone out there managed to put together a system for FS2004 that runs smoothly, has consistantly high FPS and doesn't stutter, shimmer, flicker or blurr???????

Tell me what it is please before I set fire to my current system.

Well, you don't say much about your current system so I really can't give you too much feedback. However, keep in mind that FS2004 requires a hefty processor/nice MB/and a good amount of Ram (At least 512MB). So if you lack in any of these categories, you will start to have problems.

Even the folks with high end systems run into problems, so don't feel too bad. You have to fine tune the game in order to find the ideal settings.

    Sorry....bit of a rant

    Athlon XP 2000
    Inno 3d Geforce 3 64mb
    512 DDR RAM
    60 gig HD
    MSI KT4 ultra Motherboard
    19" Monitor

......and tried lots and lots of drivers and tweaks.
Having particularly flickery/shimmery textures with 3rd party add onn scenery like UK2000 scenery and German Airports etc.
Oh and I really only fly the Fanda Dash 8

Well, you definintely need a better video card, the GeForce3 is a bit behind the times. I would start there, I'm not familiar with AMD processors but that might be your next step.

I have no problem with my system.
    See the specs.

    Good luck,

Same here. With my specs, the system is rock solid. Had a few issues in the past, but now all is well!

My computer is a rock. I have trouble every now and then but that is to be expected.

Truth is you are never going to have a perfect computer that runs perfect all the time. It will get run down and it needs to be maintained. Also you need to have a hefty system to run FS2004 well. It is the users problem to make sure the computer runs good all the time. He cannot download music, look at all the "spyware" sites and build up his HD to an extremely large amount without trouble.

So the secret to getting the good system is research to build it and then maintence to keep it going.

    This one works fine:

Northwood 2.2a at 2.706Ghz (Intel HSF)
    Abit TH7II-R
    512MB Samsung 40ns PC800
    Radeon 9800 Pro (128MB)
    Cat. 4.1's DX9b WinXP Pro
    5 WD HDD's (20GB, 60GB, 120GB, 120GB, 120GB)
Inwin case / Enermax 431W PSU

My old Athlon XP 1600, GF4 TI-4200, and 768megs of RAM did exactly that.

My newer Athlon XP 2400, GF4 TI-4600, and 1.25gigs of RAM does the same thing but with higher graphics settings. (EDIT - don't laugh at the upgrade, I got all this stuff for $100 lol!)

Sounds like you have a settings problem - your videocard is definitely on the weak side for FS, but the sim is plenty downscalable enough for that card.

Take your sliders to the minimums.

    Run FS.

If it's not running smoothly like that you've got a system problem.

If it does run smoothly, start increasing sliders until you get performance problems, then back them off a little.

I can just about get it to run pretty smoothly but no matter what I do I can't get rid of flickering 3rd party scenery and blurry distant landscape.

I am quite happy to upgrade my graphics card but what to???
There are so many to choose from.

I have had a suspicion for many years that a fundamental problem is the Athlon processor when this Microsoft product is obviously programmed on a pentium!!! or am I just paranoid because Pentiums are much less value for money than Athlon?????????
