Thread: SORRY! Blurry Textures

  1. Default SORRY! Blurry Textures

    Greetings.

I have tried dozens of tweaks for blurry textures. Is this basically the case where we all have blurry textures wen flying a 737 over a long period of time?

I wish we could have a utility.

About all you can do is to turn down the graphics settings till the blurring goes away if you're referring to terrain graphics. Blurring on aircraft is caused by mipmapped textures; but unfortunately we need them. The ATI cards (which btw is the second leading seller of graphics cards now) has a problem with alaising on non-mipmapped bmps. So mipmaps are necessary.

    See: http://biz.yahoo.com/rc/040127/tech_nvidia_2.html

Try running with your terrain mesh turned down to about 90%. Try turning off ground shadows and reducing the view distance. Anything that'll relieve the burden on your graphics card. Use the autogen fixes and Chris' clouds that have been discussed here. Also, another trick is to set your cockpit zoom to something like 0.80 . Especially, the front and left and right front views. That helps.
Another thing that helps is to increase your AF settings. If you tweak the FS9 settings enough, you'll find a sweet spot where the blurring is history.

I have the same problem but on certain aricraft. None of my DTx3?? planes are blurry. I do not remember if these were Gmax planes or not. Which format is the best?

    DXT3wAlpha.

Here's a paragraph from the DXTBmp help menu:

"Mips are the multiple sub-images contained in an Extended Bitmap. For any given size of texture the file will also include a chain of images each half the size of the previous one. A 512x512 image will also contain a 256x256 version, a 128x128 version and so on right down to 1x1 (or 4x4 for DXT as this works with 4x4 pixel blocks)

All extended image formats are saved with Mips. This may be switched off during the current session from the Prefs menu but will revert back to On the next time you start DXTBmp. It is recommended that you only switch this off when you have a particular need. All the Flightsims are designed to run best with mipped images for most textures."
