how high in the sky is this line and does it run all across your screen??
i7 920 @ 4.20 GHZ (Stable) Noctua SE cpu cooler
6GB DDR3 Mushkin Redline 1600 CL6 ram/ 1xSata WD Black / FSX 1xvelociraptor
EVGA GTX 480 / win 7 pro 64 bit
Asus p6td Deluxe Antec 750 watts
It could be anywhere. I wish I could take a screenshot.

you mentioned in your signature you have ultimate traffic so do i. And what i think is that your not having a graphics problem its simply the contrail of another aircraft (smoke behind the aircraft) at a high altitude which i believe would be over fl250. It's like a cloud behind the plane which will disappear with time. Hope that helps.

trust me, its not smoke. The screen blinks and the white line appears and goes away.

Sounds like it could be a tear or artifact. This is where the speed your card renders is out of sync with the monitor refresh.
It's basically the same as car wheels appearing to go backwards when the car moves forward, or computers flickering on TV.
I haven't used Nvidia products for a year or so now and am no longer familiar with the NVIDIA.CPL, but reducing the clock frequency to make rendering less aggressive may help. You can also override refresh of directX on the last page of DXDIAG.EXE!!!
Thank you.
I run at 1280X1024 so what should my refresh rate be?
Tim
Depends very much on your monitor.
Check out the manual to see what it is and then try matching it with the NVIDIA.CPL and the last page of DXDIAG.EXE. I'd say use DX as a last resort though!
Try to bias your settings toward quality rather than performance, 256MB of GPU probably scares the ##### out of your system!
