    Default Colorado River Gorge (cr_gorge.zip)

    Message for Holger Sandman:
    Holger,
I have attempted to install subject and have run into a major problem.
Following your instructions, I extracted the file into a temp folder, and moved the "CRG_hold" folder into "FS9\Scenery\Namw folder. I then double clicked on the "install - backup of default files.bat" The DOS window showed for an instant and then disappeared. When I checked in the CRG_hold" folder, nothing was there. I then checked the "compatibility with other landscape addons.txt. Nothing therein was applicable. I then closed all files and restarted the computer. Now FS2004 will get to the point of adding textures anywhere between 15% and 43% and then crash. I have retried the above several times with the same results. I have also found that FS9 will run OK in Europe and Canada. I suspect the file FS9\scenery\Namw is corrupted.
    Can you offer any help?
    Thanks
    Bob Marsteller

    Hello Bob,

sorry to hear about your problems. The CTD in that range of loading does indicate that an add-on can't find one or more of the default ground textures so this may be an indication of a more general problem on your system.

Do the crashes disappear when you deactivate the Columbia River Gorge entries? Also, are they seasonal and/or day/night sensitive?

Also, what other add-ons do you have installed already? I maintain a current list of my North America files at simFlight - http://forums.simflight.com/viewtopic.php?f=231&t=50007 - and it is grouped by existing add-ons.

If the batch file didn't find any of the default files then you probably have another add-on that removed them already. Perhaps Ultimate Terrain or FlightZone's Portland? Can you double-check that you installed what is applicable for your current set of add-ons? That is, the UT or FlightScenery patches, if applicable?

    Cheers, Holger

Holger, Thanks for your response. Sorry to "Flood" my request to you into other forums but I'm going crazy not being able to fly in the US.
    1. The CTD is not effected by deactivation of Columbia River Gorge entries.
    2. I do have Ultimate Terrain USA installed. I didn't know there was a patch required for this. I will try that.
    3. I manually deactivated the seven files from FS9\Scenery\Namw. I will go backand reactivate them before I do anything else.
    4. Is there a required order for installation of the UT patch - do I need to uninstall anything first. Also, after installing the patch do I need to reinstall anything?
    Thanks for your help.
I would also like to thank you and your team for the GREAT Glacier Bay project! I trust you realize what great joy all you folks who so generously contribute to flight simming give us who are not talented enough to produce our own.

    Hi Bob,

hmm, if you have UTUSA installed then most of those seven FS9\Scenery\Namw files should not have been active .bgl files in the first place. Also, I don't understand how installing CRG would suddenly lead to CTDs all over the US; you must have changed something else at the same time. Those seven bgl files, active or inactive, wouldn't cause any harm.

Thus, the first thing I'd do is to run the UT configurator, make a note of which features you currently have active, then click on "Restore all FS2004 scenery", and then re-activate the features you want. Hopefully, this will get rid of the CTDs. If not you should do some more in-depth checking before re-installing CRG or other add-ons.

To install the CRG UT patch please follow the instructions in the UTUSA-CRG compatibility readme.txt file.

Good luck and thanks for the kind words about Glacier Bay.

    Cheers, Holger

    Holger,
Have ce_gorge.zip and crg_upd1.zip installed. Installed utusacrg.zip. Everything went as advertised (correct number of files in correct places).
FS2004 loads 53% textures and crashes.
Ran UT configurator to restore FS2004 scenery. FS2004 now opens correctlly in at least Eastern Pennsylvania(didn't check other areas) but at Cascade Lock State, loads to 53% textures and crashes.
Reran UT configrator and reactivated desired features. All US airports I checked (including CRG, load textures to 53% and crash.
Can you tell me exactly what the DOS program "install - backup of default files.bat" does (yes, I know it moves the seven files into the folder but how) because that's I think where the problems started. Those files never appeared and I wonder if the DOS program lost them, misplaced them, or because it couldn't find them it placed a flag or somekind of lock which FS2004 can't get thru. Just thinking outloud - but then why would eastern PA open ok with default secenery.
    I'm stumped.
    Thanks
    Bob M

    Hi Bob,

very strange. If the crashes happen all over the US then the issue must be in \Scenery\World\texture, where the default ground textures reside. Either one or more of those went AWOL or you're missing one or more of the UT textures, which are being stored in the same folder.

You can open any .bat file with a text editor and read its commands and file names. That is, right-click on the .bat and choose Notepad or Wordpad. Like I said before, those few files moved by that .bat file can't be responsible for the crashes.

It's possible to restore the default \Scenery\World\texture files from the disk (CD4). To do that rename the current texture folder texture.prev (don't delete it) and then place a copy of the original folder from disk 4 in \Scenery\World. Then de-activate the UT features again and check the sim. Hopefully, the crashes are gone.

Are you using any replacement ground textures, like BEC, GE, or FScene?

    Cheers, Holger
