Default What is best scenery enhancement available.

Now that I am back to flying FS9, I have to admit FSX had a better coast line around lakes, rivers, oceans. I can see the templates lined up in nice rolls over and over in the scenery when flying high altitude. FSX fixed that to some degree. I am looking for the best overall enhancement for scenery.

What is the best Payware enhancement for scenery available?

    Thanks for any advise.

I use Birds Eye View, FS Genesis, and Ultimate Terrain.
Looks almost real! (In some places)

Check out the Review section over at avsim.com, they have a good
article on the use of these 3 products together.

Birds Eye View is for the ground textures. Simply awesome.
FS Genesis is for the mesh-makes the valleys lower and the mountains
    higher.
Ultimate Terrain adds a great deal of roads and towns-makes FS9
look more realistic. I still can't see my house but I can now see
the road that it is on.

I'm thinking of switching from Birds Eye View to Ground Environment
Pro. GE Pro has all seasons included and covers the entire world.
BEV, you have to buy each season and it only covers USA + Canada.

To achieve the best look is usually a combination of products.

Stay away from all the MegaScenery stuff- it's crap.

Over the holidays, several MegaScenery titles were on sale so I purchased a few. I was not that impressed with them either.

Although, I didn't ask the question to which you responded, I've been searching the forums for the same information. Thanks.

Now for another question. What is the impact on frame rates when you run these three enhancements together? I have an above average system which runs FS9, locked on 30fps, very well with most sliders to the far right.

There is very little impact on FPS when using BEV, Ultimate Terrain
and FS Genesis together. Any FPS hit is well worth the dramatic
and so much more realistic scenery that you get. You will be amazed.

I've found that the type Aircraft your flying will have a bigger FPS
hit than these scenery enhancements. If I fly the default cessna
172 over the Dallas-Ft Worth area, all the scenery is crystal clear
and sharp. But with the Capt Sim C-130 (a notorious frame rate hog)
I get some blurries that take a second to clear.

I'm researching now to find out if Ground Environment Pro does the
same thing as Birds Eye View? And is GE Pro a better product?

I use local enhancements (famous landmarks, stadiums, bridges, etc.) over city-level photo scenery/photo realistic packages over regional photo scenery packages over Ultimate Terrain, BEV and FSGenesis mesh. I don't recall off the top of my head whose water-replacement textures I use, but they add a lot, too.

I appreciate the help and the suggestions. I am downloading Bird's eye view summer and I will take a look at that scenery. $12 is not problem.

If I like this product I will buy the other 4 scenery enhancements from them. Then I will go from there.

I am already using FS Global 2005 and that does make a big difference from default mountains and such. Think I will stay with that.
Has anyone tried FS Global 2008??

    Payware:

FS Genesis Mesh, GE Pro II, Ultimate Terrain (which will give you the coastlines/rivers/lakes/etc you desire), along with Active Sky v6.

    Cannot beat that combination IMO.

Have you ever tried Birds Eye View? I use it instead of GE Pro II,
but I want to switch to GE Pro II to get the entire world.

I'm trying to determine which of the 2 is the better one.
Many people say that BEV is better than the original Ground Environment. But what about GE Pro II?

I've never had Birds Eye View, co cannot compare the two.

I really like GE Pro II though, and one of the best things about it is you create many different texture sets which install to correspond to the weather conditions....i.e. if it's cloudy, you get more 'drab', or toned down textures. If it's sunny, the textures are brighter. You create texture sets for weather between clear to overcast.

When you first use it the difference is quite stunning, as you use it more often over time, it becomes very normal and not as dramatic as you get used to it. But start FS without it, and you once again see the difference it makes.

This is done by 'reading' on-line weather METARS from your departure, departure to destination, or a saved flight plan. Once GE Pro 'reads' the weather to be expected, it assigns the texture sets accordingly.

Even better if you have Active Sky v6, as the two programs work directly together in that GE Pro will use the ASv6 METAR info provided.

It also provides you with various night color selections as well.

Finally, I think the European texture sets are great as well, as I do take a couple yearly treks 'across the pond', it is nice to actually see the difference in textures between the US and Europe.

    Great program IMO.

I have used Bird's Eye View and it was/is a good software package. I received an email from its creator, just before some of the newer scenery enhancements came out, i.e. GE Pro II, and he mentioned that he couldn't compete with these new packages. No further releases of the BEV software are planned, outside the US or Canada.

I now use the setup bkeske has with the exception that I use Flight Environment instead of Active Sky 6. Although Flight Environment is good, Active Sky 6 seems to be the overwhelming choice for its purpose. I would go with bkeske's setup.

If you want additional coverage outside of the US & Canada, GE Pro II is the way to go.
