Default Weird sound after touchdown? and from then on till restart

I have a strange occurrence... And I know you'll all ask but I am not sure it happens with every aircraft but with some of them I know it does. After the sound effect of the wheels touching the runway my sound starts sounding like I am in a barrel. Even when on vatsim the controllers voice will now sound its in a barrel. All the computer window's sounds everything sounds this way. Even after I close FS the only thing that will fix it is a computer restart. What could be causing this? any ideas?

PS most recently this happened last night when I was using the perfect flight 777 but as I recall this has happened in the past intermittently with other aircraft

    Hi,
As you stated that the sounds are bad even after shutting down FS, I would suspect it being with your sound card/drivers.
I can't say though why touchdown would "activate' the barrel sound.
ANd when shutting down FS the problem would remain.

Do the usual, check or reinstall your soundcard drivers or see if their website has updated ones.
Just my 2cents, hope it works.

I have had similar sound problem for more than 2 years now. Major sound problem in my system when playing FS9.

What system do you have? Best bet is that you have Creative Sound Card. I have this along with NVidia NForce 2 Motherboard.. really bad combination.

2 months back, I changed the sound card to the very last slot away from the CPU. There is a little improvement.

Another thing is that you might want to try pressing "Q" to turn off the sound when a glitch happens. Turn on sound again and see if the barrel sound disappears. That works sometimes for me.

Also update your sound card drivers.

Check on sound accelerator in Direct X.

    Check the MS Codecs.

You have a Dell (demsion 4600i), right. Wether it's MoBo/Chipset is Intel or Via is more important, so you can get correct drivers. The SoundMax (sound effects manager, is simular to SoundMan in case of Intel and AC97 on board sound) is also AC97, but older. There is also the option of running 'dxdiag' to test your sound.

Your 'headset' needs one plug for Microphone (pink) and one for hearing headset speakers (green). Trouble is that if you pick 5.1, or desktop, or headset, or 4 spkrs, the output for green might change. You can set them to forward/center/rear (no volume) depending on need. Them being that flexible is really nice, but opens it all up to 'errors'. Why can't it just be 'OUT'? That would be too easy (heehee). You may also ck for 'mute' being ticked.

You need to leave headset plug in green and right click on little speaker (on bottom, right) and change things there. You need 2 spkr (mono or stero). When you hear yourself out speakers, you know you have it right. Or, if you click on the slider handle (left click of little speaker) you will hear a beep. It's the 'Master' volume control, and matches slider setting.

I quit trying to fight it all, and used the center plug to feed to a powered (AC to DC) subwoofer plus 2 speakers. Low cost system, but gives sound a lot of low rumble of engines. So, you may NEED to use the headset ('the baby is sleeping!. or the neighbors upstairs complaining...). For online flying, you may get feedback from outside speakers-turn them down. And if you have a Webcam, with Mic built in, IT will interfere too.

    chipset vender is intel
chipset is 82865G/PE/P,82848P DRAM Controller / Host-Hub Interface

whatever that means. I went on dells web site and this driver was the most recent one listed for my computer. Your right I have ALOT more sliders now, like for complete surround sound. I have a 3 speaker system on my PC (subwoofer and 2 speakers) on the back everything is plugged in where it was before blue pink black all matched up. The speakers are plugged into the green port the mike the pink and the headset the black. I um muted and moved all sliders up and still nothing on the headset. Like I said its a catch 22 cause it seemed to have fixed the one problem but created another :(

I had a similar problem once, maybe the same problem. I had Active Camera and the problem went away when I unchecked the Sound option in Active Camera. I can't explain why that was the problem or how I came to that association, but as soon as I unchecked the Sound the problem was gone.
