Thread: MIP mapping

  1. Default MIP mapping

    I have a high end system with all sliders maxed.
    If i dont set the MIP level at 7 or 8, i get blurry textures in the distance, but when i do set it that high, i get shimmering on all ground objects, any ideas??

    Yep!! That's the way it works!! Set it in the middle and decrease
    your visibility!! 20 or 30 miles is normal!!

    Also if you add this line to your FS9.cfg it will help!!

    Just below display device, add;

    Tablefog=0

    Go to advanced weather at set your visibility top at 28,000 and the
    base at 0!! Use cirrus clouds and you should get something like this;

    You need to save all these settings in your default flight or you
    will have to do it every time you start!!

    Do a search in this forum, and in the hardware forum for Blurry, or something of that nature. There are dozens of tweaks for the FS9.cfg file to help increase visual quality. There is actually an open thread in the hardware forum where some tips are included.
    Recently, even more tweaks have surfaced. Keeping your mips at 4, and applying these settings should help immensely.
    If you get lost, reply back to me and I can give you some specific suggestions that seem to be common place life savers. Just remember, from system to system some things work better, worse, or not noticable, so its a game of tweaking until you find the sweet spot.

    Let me know,
