Thread: Memory loss concerning after burner sound.

Default Memory loss concerning after burner sound.

First my problem: I cannot find out how to retrieve the booming sound when the after burner kicks in on any of my applicable military jets which I have had successfully for years.

I have had the following aircraft with repaints installed for at least the last three years. All have been excellent IMHO. However, I recently had to do a reinstall and have come up with my sound question relative to after burners. I believe the download sources are as stated but it is possible something might have been from a different party.

    Dino Cattaneo's F14D
I also have an F14B assumed to be from the same contributor, but the Aircraft.cfg or any other documentation I see does not confirm this.

    Daisuke Yamamoto's F18E Superhornet

    David Bushell's F15C and F15E
I also have the Coral F15

Kirk Olsson's F16 with Eric Marciano's modified panel as per Kirk's instruction. Note that I have tried both the ab_f16.zip and the DSB Typhoon adaptation in Kirk's earlier writeup.

Best I remember, but after literally years I could be mistaken and the source could have been unique, one of these aircraft had a modification which provided the after burner sound. (Sounds just about like the sonic boom sound which does work perfectly. I would not be surprised if they are related). I believe that it was Mr. Olsson's F16, but after so long this old memory is far from certain. I am pretty sure that I copied from the bird that had this provision and modified all of these aircraft's panel.cfg, and possibly the aircraft.cfg for this provision. It worked great with all of them, although if I remember correctly the F16 needed to be picked first.

I have tried copying my old files which were backed up for each aircraft along with gauge folders, and sound folders. I have also tried totally fresh installations. Memory tries to tell me that there is some text somewhere that is missing in the cfg files but I must admit that I don't see why relative to the backups. I have tried every combination I can think of, but am afraid I have not come up with the solution yet. Everything looks and works perfect except for the missing after burner sound.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks:
    RTH

    Hi RTH,

You know, that's also one thing I haven't got around to figuring out yet in FS9. - I do have a couple of the 'Super Sonic capable Aircraft and noticed the Sonic Boom was not working - Gauge was in the panel cfg., so I found and installed the Sound file, but it still didn't work - That's about the point that I lost interest/changed directions.

Seems there was a additional folder or something had to go with the sound effect(s) - cazas or something like that.

You could search the library (probably 2002 files) for cazas or sonic boom - might lead you in the right direction for the after-burn effect. ?

If you would like to e-mail me one of the panel configs which you feel you copied the sound/effect to..I may be able to pick out the gauge...I'm pretty familiar with those panels, gauges ect...

I know the sonic boom effect you refer to..I'm not exactly sure what AB sound you may mean? However I may be able to distinguish it in the config..Just a thought..

If you wanna give it a shot send me an e-mail w attachment navav2002@yahoo.com

If you would..ID(subject) it with Flightsim Aircraft Config's or something like that...I get allot of spam w/attachments that get blasted without opening...If you'll ID it I will know not to Blast it..he he

While your at it send me one of the matching A/C configs as well...

    Have Fun!!

    Hello Randy:

The sonic boom is no problem. It works with all of these aircraft. In all honesty I don't remember where I got them. I simply edited the panels to include what I had in my backups for this purpose. The thing I cannot seem to recover is a sound very similar which was provided for after burner activation. She lights up just fine, but no additional sound. Worked fine for years, but I am missing something in my reinstallation of the aircraft.

    Thanks for the reply:

    Hi RTH,

See my reaction at avsim :-)

    Some background for those interested:
In effect files you can define a sound which is triggered when the effect is triggered On.
This is defined by the section
    Sound=*
    Sound Param=*
in the .fx file, where values related to a fixed file name in the \sound folder.

    Like:
    Sound=5
    Sound Param=4
    corresponds with files amb_aexp1*.wav (*= a,b,c) .

I can recommend a better solution for burner sound then the single Boom; see file fx_viper.zip from Jan Rosenberg.
Or a solution coupled to my addon afterburner gauge, but that's more complex to install.

    Cheers, Rob

    Thanks again Rob:

The amb_aexp1*.wav files did the trick.

You nailed my problem. See my explanation on AvSim.
