Repaint textures format Adboe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop....ugghh!

Hey all-

Just wondering, I am curious as to why everyone uses Adoboe Photoshop as repaint template formats. Isn't there a way they could do this without using on of the most expensive software on the market? I don't know about you foks, but a good number of us - a really good number can't afford this expensive software - it ranges around 600 bucks at the local retail store. Is there something I'm missing? Does everyone use Demo versions continuously?

You could try GIMP (www.gimp.org) which is FREEware, and supports a good number of features available in the Adobe product. I have used the GIMP a bit and like it a lot (haven't done any repaints yet, tho). I have not used Photoshop so I can't personally give a comparison, but you can read up on the GIMP on wikipedia

paint shop pro can use adobe photo shop layered files. as well as making its own.

If you are a student or have a child that is a student, you can get the education version of PS cs2 for $289 and you can use it commercially. There is no difference in the education version and the retail version. Here's a link of one place to buy:

I buy from Studica quite often since my wife is a teacher and it has saved me quite a bit of money.

Photoshop is expensive but I have learned that it is worth what Adobe charges for it.

Thanks for that info there Bruce. Appreciate that. Didn't realise that it could read the layered files. I have an older version of that one as well, maybe I'll have to try it again.
