Default iFly 747-400 Hints and Tips

    Hello everyone.

I just d/l this beauty, and so far am enjoying it quite well. A very steep learning curve indeed. I am hoping we can share hints, tips, and answers to questions regarding this specific add on.

I am slowly getting the hang of her, but I am having a few issues, namely -

Regarding LNav and VNav modes. What are the particular conditions that must be met to enable/engage this AP mode? I have done all the setting up in the CDU, and yet I frequently cannot engage either one of these modes. Then seemingly for no reason, I AM able to.......

The radio stack - initially I was able to select a freq in the standby window, then make it active using the <-> key. Now, I can change freqs in the STBY window, but cannot make it active.

Additionaly, if I use the Nav Com page in the CDU, no DME data is displayed at all for the VORs I've programed in.

Flight Plans - is there any other method, besides directly inputing a fp, one waypoint at a time, into the CDU Legs page, of importing fps from another source (such as FSNav or the FS9 Flight Planner)?

Well, thanks in advance, and I hope this thread turns into a well travelled clearinghouse of info!

You're ahead of me on the learning curve.

I use FSNav and it would be very helpful to be able to export the data into the CDU from FSNav. I just noticed that there are a couple of sample flight plans in a folder created under FS9/IFLY/747-400/navdata/FLTPLAN. However I can find no instruction on how to load these sample fltplans or, more importantly how to save a flight plan that I've created manually in the CDU. There are some instructions in the Manual folder on how to create SID/STARs data files but I'm unclear on how to save and reuse them.

I'll stay tuned and post anything I figure out. Hope you'll do the same.

    Jim

    Hi Jim

I use FSNav as well. I generated a plan using FSN, put it in the folder you mentioned (changing the file extension to the iFly one), and no joy. I took out the two default plans, and still no joy.

I ended up inputting a plan from KBOS to KFSO by hand, saved it successfully, and got it to run OK, but there appear to be no SIDs/STARs for any but the default plan airports.

Conclusions - I don't know if that CDU will hold any more than two plans.

    - So far, it looks like you will have to manually input any plan you want to fly.

    - How to import SIDs/STARs?

Lets keep in touch. We'll figger it out!

    Chris
