    Default Landing Gear/Animation Not Working

    Hello everyone, I have been using MS Flight Sims since FS'98 and I have a quick question.

    I recently downloaded and installed an A-10 Thunderbolt (file fs9a-10a.zip) from the website and when I select it in-game, the landing gear do not show up, the control surfaces do not move, the there is no pilot, etc. Now is there something I did wrong in installation, I did what it said, and that was to unzip the folder into the main FS9 folder, but it still didn't work. Any tips on how to solve this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Well, when I've tried to install aircraft made for an older version of FS, I've experienced missing landing gear too. The file in question doesn't seem to be such the case though, unless it's been renamed. But I am just guessing.

    Sounds very much like the symptoms of installing a model written for earlier versions of FS (e.g. FS8 model transplanted into FS9). If the author states that the model is not expressly incompatible with FS9, then when you first run FS9 and select the aircraft, you will be asked whether you want to disable certain features. You're supposed to answer 'no.' :) If you answered 'yes' by mistake, then you need to exit, remove the entry in FS9.cfg with your text editor, and start the sim over.

    Where is the entry in the FS9.cfg file?

    Here is where mine are: (please note that the asterisks are actually replaced by a left bracket and a right bracket in the cfg file)

    *FrameCallNoWarn*
    F1b=1
    F1C=1
    Dassault Mirage IIICZ (Kukri and supertank)=1

    All well, and good. But, deleteing of line will no 'fix' anything. It only gives you another chance to answer 'Yes' or 'No' to 'warn' notice when you go load AC again. The 'nowarn' means for FS9 not to ask YOU again (as it already asked, once before). The answer is irrelevant (ie: it don't fix nothing). It just stops the 'warn' you get when you try to load an 'old' AC, and some of it's features are incompatible, or unable to be 'turned on', by FS9. That's all.

    If it's an FS2000 AC, you will still not get prop, gear, pilot, moving flaps, lights, etc. Even if you answer NO (don't 'disable') when 'warned'. I guess people just fly from VC panel and never look at it from tower or spot view. AC's made with FSDS usually show up well, in all FS versions. GMAX and 'other' design programs do not do as well. And adding textures from FS9 (like for props, etc) don't work, anyway. (Being there, done that).

    Hello,
    I'm getting into this midstream, but might have something to add that's useful.
    I have several old planes of mine that I brought into FS9 from earlier versions of the sim. True, there's no way props will appear (and I can't speak for retracting gear because my old planes didn't have this feature). However, an easy change makes the flaps, ailerons, elevators and rudder operative:
    1. Go to that FS9.cfg file. It's sort of hidden in Documents and Settings/Your Name/Applications/Microsoft/FS9. Open it with Notepad.
    2. Scroll down to the FrameCallNoWarn entries.
    3. Find the plane's entry. It'll be of the form planename=0.
    4. Change this to planename=1.
    5. Save.
    That's it. Now the plane will appear in FS9 normally (with no warning jazz). More important, its control surfaces will work. The only shortcoming will be lack of prop.
    I hope this is helpful to your quandary.

    .....as said above. Answering the "warning" dialogue correctly WILL set this properly within the FrameCallNoWarn section of fs9.cfg , so, if this line is removed, FS will set it properly if answered right. BUT, do as Dennis says, it's MUCH quicker and easier!!! :)

    Some good answers here, which collectively ought to enlighten any newbie on this subject. :) I would reply simply that my answer, though incomplete, was not entirely irrelevant...
