fs 2004 won't load anymore

FS 2004 suddenly won't load anymore.After clicking the Icon,the main FS splash-screen comes up for about 10secs and then jumps back to the desk-top.I bought a new copy of the sim because the original had some scratches on it.This worked for a while. After a week of flying and re-installing countless add-ons,to-night suddenly it started again.Tried several re-installs,system restores, de-frags, etc. no luck. Any thoughts, I'm desperate....

I suspect it has to do with one of the addons you are using. The fact that you used the word countless ominiously points towards a problem that most FS users have had at some point in time.

I would start with a clean FS install. I would then install each addon one at a time and restart the program after each one. If you encounter the same problem again, uninstall the very last addon you added before it stopped working and hopefully that will help you find the culprit.

Otherwise perhaps someone else could help him further?

This happened to me twice. Once because I renamed my default plane in its config file, which when I went to boot up, the default plane was seen as to not exist anymore and it would CTD. (Usually it states that it cant find the plane and defaults to the Cessna).

Then, recently in making a Rwy12 personal library for scenery, I started having CTD's occurr. I removed bits piece by piece and found the culprit to be 3 model files for some static scenery in the Static Objects Library in FS9/Addon Scenery.

So, I think you 'changed' something and this is what is causing the stalls. You can either reinstall FS9 from the discs, try using Recovery/Back Step, or do a little diagnostics and think where the change occurred and what it might be.

I had this exact same problem recently. My problem ended up centering on the aircraft in my Default Flight having a problem and crashing FS9. My solution was this:

Search for a file named fs9.cfg. Mine was in c:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9 where username is the name of the Windows user. Make a backup copy of fs9.cfg then edit it with your favorite text editor. Find a line that looks like SITUATION="c:\...". This identifies your default flight. Delete that line - fs9 will recreate it automatically later. Save the file and start fs9. Hopefully it'll start OK and you can define a new default flight. If this IS the problem, you'll still need figure out what was wrong in your old default flight. Mine was a defective aircraft model.

if you have a spare drive, copy all your FS9 folders to that drive. then uninstall and re-install FS9. The sim should work. Then you can either re-install your add-ons from scratch, or you can move your folders back to FS9 one by one using overwrite, checking that FS9 works after each one. If FS9 stops working, the problem will probably have been in the last folder moved over.
