Thread: Heading problem

  1. Default Heading problem

    Hello everybody,

Its been sometime since I last posted here butI would like your help with a problem> Please forgive me if this has been posted lately but I could not find any topics on this.

All of a sudden on all my panels (3rd party and default) I can´t get correct heading readings. sometimes the error is like 20 degress but sometimes I get like 90 degrees away for the correct heading. If I turn the Shift Z option the reading is also incorrect as it is on the panels. I do know the heading is incrrect because I can compare it with the alignment of some runaways I know.

Any body gotta a clue about it ? The worst part is that I feel I am playing stupid because this seems to be some gage adjustment feature I am unaware of rather than a problem

I thank you in advance for any help

    best

Try pressing the 'D'key. (synchronises Gyro heading to Mag.compass)

    Sergio,

did you install any addon scenery recently? If you did, you might wish to uninstall these items, one at a time, and see if your problem goes away.

If the headings are wrong in the shift-Z display, then it is possible some addon has messed with the magdec.bgl . This file will be in your scenery\base\scenery folder. Check the file date. It should read 3/3/2003.

    Sergio,
As Todd says, this sounds like an add-on scenery eliminating your magnetic variation, so your heading indicators are showing true heading instead of magnetic.
I had this problem with the Torres Straits scenery in aerotropics.zip (at the "other" site). The file YDNI_EXCL.BGL was corrupt. It didn't actually change magdec.bgl, but it stopped it working - worldwide. Deleting YDNI_EXCL.BGL solved the problem.

    Hope this helps.

I also had this problem... Seems that the compass card DG would only display TRUE heading ang not magnetic... This was varified by placing my aircraft at several different airports. Remember the runway heading is magnetic...
Never could find the bad addon.. Had to remove all airport addons and start over... I left out Simflyers Phila., Bremerton, and Cleveland as one of them appeared to be the culprit..

    Hi Guys,

    Thanks for your inputs.

Unfortunately I am not sure if this is it.

I read the Magdec.bgl file and the date is OK. I don´t have the YDNI_EXCL.BGL in my system.

I tried shift D but also nothing happened.

And yes, I do have dozens of addons

One thing I forgot to tell you: sometimes (but not everytime) changing aircraft (even with the same panels) might work to correct the deviation.

I also forgot to mention that checking on the options I noticed that the Gyro Drift option is unchecked (athough checking it also did no good)

    I am really puzzled...

    I was wondering...

If my MagDec file seems to be OK could the problem be something else than an addon ?

Other question does the faulty scenery have to have a MagDec File or is it created by some other file (should I look into aadons and see if the have the magdeg file in the zip ?

Finally, would anyone mid sending me a fresh magdec file through e mail (salmendra@osite.com.br - rest assured that I have a legal copy of FS in my system) ? If I replace the file would it work ?

Thanks again in advance for any help.

Just a guess. De-Activate all your scenery addons (un-check) in the scenery library....close FS9 then open it to set the data bases.... From your FS9 disk... add the magdec.bgl file to your Scenery\Base\scenery folder... Suggest you delete, copy and paste... Do not overwrite..
When I had the problem I also replaced the Generic.bgl file.. Scenery\generic\scenery...I suspected the addon sceneries had corrupted this file ????

Now reboot and open FS9....This should get you back to a default situation...Take any default aircraft and open it. Locate aircraft at KSEA rwy34L... mag variation is about 20 degrees there... Make sure aircraft shows mag hdg. 340....not 360..

Hopefully all will now be OK in FS9.... If it is ??? then begin activating scenery one at a time and check heading display...

This is basically what I did when the problem occured.... It may NOT work for you... Although I was able to fix the problem I am not sure why it worked...

    Good Luck Ray Lunning..
