    Default Wing Tip Light Size

    Grettings

After a search of the forums, I was unable to find the answer to my question.

The wing tip lights on my aircraft are very large, about the size of Basketballs relative to the aircraft.

Is there a setting in the aircraft.CFG, or FS9.CFG where I can adjust this?

    Thank you.

There are a few files in the library that modify the lights on the runway and the aircraft. That's the easy way to modify your lights. Someone will post the exact line from the cfg, it's been posted thousands of times.

    All aircraft, or just one?

If true for all aircraft, the advice above is correct (or if you did it already, go back to the default). If only one aircraft, it's in the aircraft model and there's nothing you can do.

    Hope this helps,

Its just one aircraft that I have noticed so far. I'll check the others to see if it is a universal problem.

All aircraft have the large wingtip lights. I'll check out the above link, and see what I can do.

    Thank you

Ha. Sounds like they forgot your lights, and went off on banners, which I suspect is more 'add-on' scenery, than lights, and might not EVEN be part of the AC MODEL at all! The lights ARE part of the model. And there lies your problem, if you intend to 'fix' them. In other words: NO, there is not a cfg entry you can change to fix.

I import AC from FS98 / FS2k / FS2k2 into FS2k / FS2k2 / FS9, and some AC have 'beach ball' lights. Now if you could determine if the AC model is FSDS or GMAX, then it might become clear which one causes the large size lights. Me? I just turn the lights off (ha!).

Or, maybe it's not related to which program is used to make model (FSDS or GMax), but simply due to FS VERSION! So, perhaps LIGHTS size can't be fixed (and surely not by an AFCad program). Unless a program is out there I don't know about, that works for diff versions of FS, but I doubt it.

    Hi,

If ALL aircraft have the large lights (even the FS2004 default aircraft) then the problem is not in the visual models, but the Effect that is being used for the lights. These effects are specified in the Lights section of the plane's aircraft.cfg file.

You could try to put a double slash (//) in front of each of the light lines in that section for a given plane, save the file, and restart FS. If the big lights disappear, then it is the effect(s) used by those lights that is the problem. If not, then it's probably in the plane's visual model.

You probably downloaded a light texture replacement file (usually to create larger lights on the runways) that is giving you the big lights.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi Yourself,
You mean those guys that do the light replacement (for 'city lights' and runway lights) don't use their own lights? They overwrite the 'fx_light' file section, that we put in the cfg's light section, with their own version, and don't tell you? THIS WOULD CAUSE ALL THE AIRCRAFT TO HAVE THE LARGE LIGHTS, NOT JUST THE DEFAULT. How rude! Now my wing lights are going to look like a street lamp (5000 watt mercury vapor?)? No way! How could they? You say that these lights are 'TEXTURE'? What! They use 'texture' for LIGHTS? Then maybe he CAN use the AFCAD program to fix them then? Is that what you are implying? Or are you just guessing?

Of course you left yourself and 'out' with (quote)'If not, then it's PROBABLY in the plane's 'VISUAL model'. Is there any OTHER type of model, besides 'visual'? Don't confuse me, please. It's hard enough. I can't use THAT kind of help.

    Chuck,

You'd be wise to re-read Tom Gibson's post's on this thread, with the intent of learning, rather than 'trying to disprove what he says.

His 'Helpful explanations are spot on.

You wont find many (if any) people more knowledgeable, than Tom is, in this particular area of FS9.

You may want to search his name in the various download libraries here, or any available on the Internet.

There are 2 ways of displaying Aircraft lights in Flight Sim. Either in the model file, or in the CFG. file. Both are covered in the post's above.
