    Default Flight Planning

I'm having problems with the flight planning part of the sim. After I select Flight Planning, I pick an airport a gate or ramp a destination I select IFR, I click on find route, click Ok, fly now, I update real weather and after all that and I'm ready to talk to the tower for taxi info ect.I get the dialog box that ask if want to remain in pattern, take off straight ect. ect. Whats going wrong?

This sometimes happens to me aswell - it seems the FS2004 ATC for some reason "forgets" that you have an IFR flightplan loaded (even your GPS should show it). What I do when I notice this is choose the "Select new IFR destination" (or somesuch) option in the ATC window. This allows me to load or re-create the IFR plan and be on my way.

Thanks for answering my question, I only wish I had asked before I uninstalled and re-installed FS2004. I thought some 3rd party add-on had done me in.

    Hi,

I find this is more reliable if this is the LAST thing I do before actually flying. Load your weather (etc.) BEFORE you load the flight plan. Or, create the flight plan, load the weather, and load the flight plan again.

    Hope this helps,

Always load your weather first. Fs2004 picks the runways for takeoff and landing based on the weather at those points. If done right you should be able to set your plane to GPS and turn on nav mode and the plane will follow the plan from the second you start rolling to the time your wheels touch down (I'm not saying you *would* do that...)

Also be sure you're checking IFR. The only times this has ever happened to me is if I check vfr instead.

Also remember that you can't take off IFR from an uncontrolled airport, you have to take off then contact departure/centre.
