    Default Fun stuff!

I like FS as a program, but when I put it through normal use, it, just like windows, loves to crash on a normal basis. Out of two flights today, both crashed and I was actually able to view my nav log for the first time in months. The second time, I found pretty funny. I was flying EPLE-EPBK in the Piaggio Avanti (non-FSD version) when I experienced a electrical systems failure, losing avionics and FS crashed on me. I like FS, it's got great visuals and is fun to fly in, but it keeps crashing just like it's OS couterpart (for me).

For a starter suggestion, I would suggest posting your system details since you apparently are having more than just FS CTDs ( Crash to Desktop).

There are a lot of things that can create these sort of problems but I would think that this would be a good place to look first. The more detail that you can supply, the more likely that someone here is going to be able to help.

I'm glad you added the "for me" at the end there. I don't know how it's possible for people to have such wildly varied experiences with a piece of software. I guess it just comes down to the fact that no two systems are alike. I think I can count on one hand the number of times FS9 has CTD'd on me in the year and a half I've been flying it (on an almost daily basis). I've got about a hundred freeware and a dozen payware planes installed, scads of add-on scenery, use real weather religiously, all sorts of alternate textures, and still the sim is as stable for me as bedrock. Come to think of it, so is WinXP. I'm sympathetic to your plight, but somewhere somehow theres got to be a reason for those ctd's...

Hi ZEV,I absolutely agree with you, must be some other reason.Microsoft's FS9,along with Microsoft's WINxp PRO is practically a fail safe combination. In any event, over the years all FS Sims have proven reliable. We all ,I'm sure have loaded the default FS9, into something thats unrecognizable by its creators. We pull it apart, fiddle with it, get into it brain ,alter it, and it still goes on.More reliable than a HAL190. With all that ,it still functions beautifully, and absorbs all you can put into it.I don't know of a program that can be customized by so many, with so much, and still provide quality service. How ever ,if a bad D/L is thrown in,or get some exotic virus, it may cause something. But once you delete the offending cause, no problem, " FOR ME" that is. These rare crashes may be attributed to a basic individual computer anomaly. Often some operators cause and find these things . And blame the program. There are many varied combination of computers out there.FS9, its required to run on all of them, and it does.On the expensive, high speed computers , no problem.Or the "rigs" we carefully put together,no problem. Thousands of happy MICROSOFT FS9 users seem pleased with this FS9. So much so we all can't wait to get the next offering from MS.One good Sim follows an other. And that will continue, thanks to MICROSOFT!! " CHEERS! VIN ;)

I'm not really having too many crashing problems with Windows (although it has been known to crash when one's doing something important, and it apparently has a reputation for it), but FS has been working great for me, a few bad things spoil it (e.g. bad panels or incomplete aircraft) and the real reason why I don't want another FS is FS9 has beautiful visuals, and I see it as a very good flightsim. What MS is at fault for, there are people out there that can release mods and tweaks to change the things that people complain about, basically just relase an "expansion pack" to an already stable program that we have put so much work into (addons).

The problem I mentioned is because I left the failures option on, but the navigation log problem - when I create a FP, I click on the "Navigation log" button, and it changes screens, but to a white square and nothing happens. It happens frequently, and rarely works from the FP menu, only when I view it in-flight. The two crashes were random, I haven't touched the sim in a couple of weeks and that's how it greets me.

    Dzien dobry, Grzegorz --

Just a quick comment on Windows crashing: my PC, a Dell Dimension 8300 that's been in service for just days shy of a year now, has a Windows XP Pro OS. I can tell you it's shown a blue screen three times in that timeframe, in each instance due to some glitch with the driver for the CD Drive. We've three other Dell PCs in our family, each running Windows XP, and I've experience with same in business settings as well, with the experience similar: they're not crashing.

Earlier versions of Windows were less reliable, but the reputation you cite is undeserved for XP.
    Happy Sim Flying!

Re the navlog problem..go into control panel/add remove programs and look for a program called "viewpoint". If it's there..remove it. For many of us that fixed the problem of navlog (or anything on the kneeboard) causing a CTD

Or, it could be something as simple as a missing 'sound' file that is associated with/required by a PANEL switch (click, etc), usually when the 'file' is not installed correctly after extraction of zip.

With electrical failure, just go 'Aircraft' menu, 'failures', and click 'electrical' tab, and un-ck red ck mark, reload AC, ck Master/Avionics/Gen switch(s), and continue flight. (I know-it's not 'real'. Good part is it only happens ONCE during a flight.)
