Hello. I was wondering how do u turn off the annoying startup screens that come up everytime u boot up your computer. I always have a netzero sign up screen come on everytime i boot up and so does my neighbor. She has a Microsoft Works screen that always comes on when she boots up. I know there is a way to fix this because i have stumbled upon this file before, but in my recent searches i haven't been able to locate it. i don't know why i didn't turn it off the first time but if someone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanx,

    Eric :-)

I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to, but you should MSCONFIG your computer for best performance. Go to start, run, and type msconfig. Go to the startup tab, and basically uncheck everything that isn't explorer and your antivirus program. It does wonders for computers.

You can also delete everything in your startup menu

    C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\startup

Everything that is in the starup folder will start when your computer boots.

If you're referring to the Windows startup screens, which are composed of the Startup, Shutdown and "OK to switch off" screens, these are the following files:

    c:\logo.sys
    c:\windows\logos.sys
    c:\windows\logow.sys

There are numerous more interesting replacements (mine are a nifty set relating to Star Trek) available on the Net, but if all you want is a black screen, find the above files and remove them.
