Thread: Collision Avoidance lights and Runway Lights

  1. Default Collision Avoidance lights and Runway Lights

    Hello,

I upgraded from an older version of FS and was surprised to see
no blinking lights on top of buildings and towers, and the runway lights seem real dim. Are these things normal in FS 2004, or do I have a hardware or configuration problem? I e-mailed Microsoft about this, but havn't gotten anything back.

    Thanks
    Greg

You may have your sliders set too low on the sceney. Check the setting for lights.

Also, for the runway lights, this might help in seeing them more clearly, taken form the FS FAQ at the top of the page:

    36. How can I change the way runway and approach lights look?

There are now scalars in the FS9 config file that will allow you to scale the size of each category of lights to your liking. The values have to be added to the (DISPLAY) section of the fs9.cfg file, they are set to 1.0 by default. This is a power user option and has no UI.

RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR (scales edge, center, end, and touchdown lights)

    RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR (scales VASI lights)

    RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR (scales approach light bars)

    RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR (scales RAILs and ODALs)

    Hope this helps you,
    Mike

also on this topic...the lights in previous versions were way too bright, there isnt an airport around where you can see the blue taxiway lights from 20 miles out...when i was taking flight lessons, my instructor told me before my first night flight "you may think the airport will be lit up at night, but in reality look for the dark hole in the city"

Except for the runway and ramp lights which will be visible for miles...
