Default A Puzzling Problem With Ultimate Traffic and FS9

I'm turning to all the great problem solvers in the Flightsim.com forum that are familiar with Flight 1's Ultimate Traffic. I have FS9 with Ultimate Traffic. All has been well with UT and I can still see all the AI aircraft, hear ATC, use the PalmSpotter, etc. I've used the updater before with no problems, until now. I go to the updater and click on "find updates". When I select the "new updates" box and click install, I get the "red X" message "Ultimate Traffic Installer has encountered an error while attempting to load your AirportAssignments.dat file and needs to close." Alas, I cannot install any new updates.
Steve and the tech guys at UT have tried to solve it, and have checked my files. They are apparently fine. The best I can remember, I have installed FS9's update and Windows XP service update 2 since last running UT's updater. It was also suggested I disable my virus scanner (Norton's '04) which I did, but got the same results. I also disabled windows firewall. I'd sure appreciate a solution to this. I love UT and would like to get the latest AFCADS and aircraft. Thanks.
    Regards,

    Tom

Well, since no one else has answered you yet... ;-)

If Steve and the UT tech guys say all your files look OK, I wold have to assume that something got corrupted with your UT installation. In cases like these, the only SURE way to solve it is to re-install from scratch.

Note that with UT, there are many ways during the install that you can "hose" things so the product may not work correctly after install. This isn't the maker of UT's fault...it's part of the process of upgrading and improving the overall product (so I'm not hammering UT here!). Of particular note are the "warning messages" posted on the UT site about making sure you don't overwrite your most current version of FSUIPC during one of the upgrades (actually, it will get overwritten...you need to replace it with a backup of your most current one, as per the instructions).

One of the updates (patches?) also fixes a problem with the auto-updater (which wouldn't work after one of the updates if I remember correctly).

In any case, I just recently re-installed all my FS9 stuff onto a new hardrive, including UT. You DEFINITELY need to go to the UT website and "refresh your memory" about how to install the main program and the upgrades/patches for it, as there are several "nice to know" things that if you skip them, your installation may not function properly.

    Hope this helped.
