Default IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET MAJOR CITIES TO GLOW AT A DISTANCE?

Its nice to have "GLOWING" stars on a clear nite. But cities, give off a glow too. Can be seen for many miles. Maby we'll have to wait for....the upcoming new FS for this.:-roll Wonder if anyone did this. FREE or Pay no difference. It would look good on a dark nite to see this. VIN;)

Unfortunately not, I wish there was. I'm hoping to see this in the next version. Are you using FSW night lights? They are definitley the most realistic set available.

In my opinion, a must for the MSFS team to work on. If they can bring this in to view ever so gradually, why not distant clouds also.

There were some addon sceneries for fs2002 that had this effect.. one was Perth in Western Australia.. there was a glow over each of the major suburbs.. very effective. It was not picked up by Microsoft for FS9.. I cannot think why. Teecee.

"Ultimate terrain" looks promising...check it out: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_topics.asp?FID=19.

While I am not inclined to be picky about details in a $50 program as good as FS, another cool effect would be the way a brightly lit city illuminates the underside of low and even not-so-low stratus. Distant lightning effects would be cool too.

Ya, a glow would be nice. The only things i know to spruce up night flying are:

    1) fsnights (not sure of exact file name) but it makes large cities
    look much better,

    2) again, bad with names, but the stars files that are available to
add a gazillion extra stars to the skies, and constelations! ,

    3) tune your monitor properly for ultimate clarity,

    4) turn down or off the lights!

I know it doesn't really give you the answer you were looking for, but these 4 tips do improve overall night flying alot!!

Cities that glow the way beana5 mentioned would be one excellent touch of realism to Flight Simulator. What I'm craving are clouds over large cities that also glow and reflect these lights. I've posted before about how when flying into a large city and there is a low layer of broken clouds, the effects of light hitting these clouds is awesome. Especially if there is a stadium with something going on nearby. Bring it MSFS Team!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

Actually, the other night I was flying FS9 and I was desceding into the murk around Chicago and the visibilty was farily low, around 6-7 miles. The clouds all around were glowing an orangeish color and it look very realistic, almost like it was the city light reflecting off the clouds. This was the first time I experienced this so maybe it was a fluke? I know this isn't the orange glow everyone is speaking about but it was neat nonetheless....

The FS engine is not capable to produce the effect of a light source hitting another object... like a streetlight throwing it's beam onto the street at night. If they did it would bring down every computer down to a slideshow. Maybe in a few years time when we are up to 6GHz machines.
