AFJROTC and getting my private license

Hey guys, I'm currently on Air Force JROTC in my High School...and I thought that it was a good way to get me more into an aviation career...I get good grades in school and have a 3.7 GPA, I sincerily don't want to stay in AFJROTC they brainwash you and some of the cadets in there are a bunch of hypocrites so I'm thinking of getting out of there next year. What are the requirements to get a Private Pilot license and how much money for the flight school?

Lol, I'm in Navy JROTC and they don't brainwash us that much here. I do hate having to keep my hair short though. I'm im NJROTC so it's easier to get a scholarship for college later on.

As for the ppl, what flight school are you looking at? I'm probably gonna go to Florida Aviation Academy at PMP or some flight school at FXE.

I told you, it's a PMP as in KPMP aka Pompano Beach Airpark a little north of you. I'm not sure about the price but you can check the requirements and call them. The website is www.floridaaviationacademy.com. And it's a part 141 too.

Hey saw your post and wanted answer some of your questions. The federal regulations for a private pilots licence require you to obtain 40 hours of duel instruction from a CFI. You must be at least 16 years of age to solo and 17 years of age to obtain your PPL. The national average of hours it take for someone to be ready to take the PPL practical test is 80hr's and the normal price for a cessna 172 is around $80-90 an hour. Hey Brian i would be really careful about those type of flight acadamies. They have a tendency to pump out pilots who really don't know what they are doing. It may sound great to be able to have a a king air type rateing in 14 weeks but think about it. If you were a company would you hire a pilot with low hours and almost no experiance? Just putting my warning out there.

In retrospect, I feel stupid. I could have received my pilot's license a few years ago before I left the Air Force for less than $1000. Even worse, the schools accepted the Mongomery GI bill as payment.. I could have recieved it virtually for free! http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmili.../angryfire.gif

My GPA in high school was a 2.0 sometimes if I was lucky, and most Junior ROTC dorks couldn't even pass a basic enlisted physical. I graduated in the bottom 10% of my class :D
