FS2004 Slow Sounds

I have recently installed FS2004 on a 1.3G Processor, 1G RAM machine. I have had problems with the ATC sounds - either AI or "real" (via vatsim). Whenever I use AI ATC, the dialogue is very slow. It sounds as if you are playing a tape at super slow speed. The same holds true when I connect to Vatsim and use SBRelay and voice. I tried using EndItAll, and closing all but essential programs but that did not help.

Any ideas???

This will happen if the playback device on the system is something other than your soundcard. The program Total Recorder comes to mind as one that will cause this problem.

To check this, go to Control Panel|Sound|Audio tab and make sure your sound card is listed as default device.

If that doesn't fix it, make sure the audio Hardware Acceleration is set to full. You can find this by clicking the advance button on the Audio tab. Of course make sure you have the latest soundcard drivers.
