Thread: Replacement clouds

    Default Replacement clouds

Any opinions on replacement clouds that are available on flightsim.com? How do they look vs. the default 3-D clouds in FS2004? The reason I am asking is that I have 3-D clouds set to only 10%, but still get hammered on framerates when flying over heavy cloud areas. Any help or advise would be much appreciated!!!

    Thanks,

Not sure which cloud packs you're talking about but long ago I replaced all my clouds with the FPS-improvement ones. There's a pack intended to allow you to set 3d to 100% and have better performance than the stock clouds. They DO work!!!

Make a backup of your clouds and then go looking for a single pack that boasts FPS improvement. I forget which pack it was but they made my simming experience a whole lot better.

I have converted all the cloud textures to dtx3,

they use about a 1/4 of memory of the originals but look no different, you can get them from my website

    Hi,
HiFPS.zip performance clouds, are converted same as the pic, to dtx3 with the fog fix near mount (default 512x512 DXT3), if you want better performance then the previous get HIFPSV2.

    Extremly important:
Be aware not all clouds in fs2004 need to be converted since 50% clouds are not used in fs2004 at all and will cause issue with addon's scenery thermal

If you want better clouds then default get fs sky world 2004 with the fswhifps. Default are good but lack on details, they appears always flat clouds with no details.
