Thread: Here's a new one!

    (FS9)
Fly IFR from the Flying S Ranch to KMOT. Ask for ILS for Rwy 31. Get approval for 13 instead--everytime.

Are you using real weather? If so, I guess the wind direction doesn't change much in that area and rw 31 is never used...

I am not using Real Weather but since I requested 31 and ATC approved 31, I don't understand why Tower gives me 13. I have tried it a few more times and it hasn't happened since I asked the question--figures!

    Thanks for the response,

If I recall correctly, FS determines the active runways when you first launch. If wind conditions change or whatever, the active runways will not. Perhaps you started with real weather on and then turned it off or something and the tower will still give you the runway it thought was the best when you started FS.

Really? Wow that is stupid... that can make for a very difficult crosswind and/or tailwind landing if you're doing long flights.

The reason is that approach handles the instrument approach while the tower determines the landing runway. You may get cleared for the ILS22 at KSCH but the tower will circle you to land on runway 28.

Approach has no control over the airport itself.
