Thread: Engine exhausts

  1. Default Engine exhausts

    I enjoy WWII warbirds and older commercial flyers and wish I could liven the aircraft by adding orange or cherry red exhaust flames from exhaust stacks when RPM's reach a certain level. The realism would be astounding, especially at night.

    Anyone familiar with this technique?

    Regards...

    Alot of aircraft already come with these type of FX - wish I could help you with how to do it. Check out the default Ford Tri-Motor, it has some cool details, including exhaust fires.:-wave

    shouldn't be too hard to do, like some aircraft have afterburner flames modelled into them that "slide" out the back with higher power, making the flame bigger with more power. The new PM2 concorde update has that sliding effect and it also flickers nicely. Unfortunately for you, it would have to be modeled into the plane when it was first made, and not created. Maybe it could be done with a nice effect and a xml guage to...

    Merry Christmas.

    Exactly why is that? I'm quite sure that many afterburner flame effects on my hangar jets are just borrowed from other aircraft and simply tacked-on. For this reason, I don't currently see why the exhaust flames would have to be modelled with the plane at the same time.

    If you want the perfect example of RR Griffon with the best exhaust stack flames....check out the RealAir Spitfire XIV..the flames start orangey in colour as the engine is cold/rich but soon turn to the blue shade indicating the right temperatures are being established...

    That is my tip for 2005!!

    Greetings,

    I agree, the RealAir Spit flame effects are very nice...once
    turned blue, they will increase in size and intensity with
    higher engine revs (idle, cruise, and max)...they also can reflect
    slightly off of the aircraft paint at night...

    Happy Flying

    The Freeware Lockeed Constellation show exhaust flames and they do it as an effect in the aircraft.cfg file. It looks looks this:

    // exhaust flame effects
    light.6 = 2, 13.928, -29.887, 2.234, fsdzigns_engcru_049 ; engine 1
    light.7 = 7, 15.814, -13.683, 0.423, fsdzigns_engcru_049 ; engine 2
    light.8 = 8, 15.814, 13.683, 0.423, fsdzigns_engcru_049 ; engine 3
    light.9 = 9, 13.928, 29.887, 2.234, fsdzigns_engcru_049 ; engine 4

    Ahh the Connie...Dale, your post just reminded me of being a young lad living near Blackbushe Airport in southern England. Connies flying over at night had this amazing display of eight blue flames emerging from the exhausts - and it is these touches that can bring an FS aeroplane to life. That's all, you just touched an old memeory!

    Hello Inbetween

    Did you read my post before Christmas re RealAir and what they should do next as a follow up to the Spitfire? My wish, and many others is for the DH Mosquito. Nice exhaust glow from the cockpit.....!!
