Am rather stoked after several days of trying this now:

Delightfully fun finding & so far it is working well for me. Am thinking I'm hooked.

Larry, Larry, Jeff ... any real world pilots care to try this (if you've not already done so)
& share your results, please? Anyone else's thoughts are welcome too.

    Thanks ...

I looked at your screenshots, tried it for myself with the RealAir Spitfire, and then went out & sat in my RV6A. The RV cockpit is about the size of the Marchetti SF260 which also has side by side seating & a clear canopy.

IMO.......... it's all a compromise, because sitting in the cockpit I have a field of vision which could include at least three of my 21" monitors side by side & at least two more below. With my head motionless, my eyes, including peripheral vision from the side, can see the complete panel & both side canopy frames.

Yet, if actually flying, my eyes would be focusing beyond the panel to the distant scenery, and the panel would be out of focus until I glance for gauge readings such as airspeed, altitude, and heading. At this point, I'm kind of seeing what's closer to the 1.5 magnification.

But.............. with that, I'm loosing some perhipheral vision which also supplies a sense of speed, especially low to the ground, and this is where compromising comes in play.

Another problem with a plane such as the Spitfire & 1.5 magnification, is that you also loose some visual cues from peripheral side vision which helps to keep lined up with the runway. For this purpose, the .75 zoom rate works better, but might not look as correct as 1.5. So once again, it's a compromise without a correct answer.......unless you run a lot more monitors.

I myself, do switch zoom rates quite often depending on mood. Before VC cockpits were in fashion, I'd often zap the 2D panel altogether & use the "shift Z" readouts as mentioned for landings. Other methods I use, is ctrl/enter or backspace, and shift/enter or backspace to move my seat up & down.

    * As per my ss forum thread:

Hmmm ............. am thinking that perhaps you should get back into your RV6A, fly to Scottsbluff, Nebrska
& then allow me to sit in your plane so that I may see for certain myself. http://flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum/...e06c9880f2.gif Ha ha ha haaa .............
Seriously, Larry, am appreciative of your full response, thanks. Your thoughts are precise: a compromise. Agreed.
