    Default Just Curious....Does this exist.

Hey fellow simmers. Got to lookin around, couldn't find anything resembling a program I had in mind.

What I was looking for is a program to assist in ATC stuff. MOst specificaly..an example. Say your doing a KLAX-PHNL flight...you don't realy want to sit through the whole thing....would be nice to be able to speed up while still answering ATC. I mean in cruise, on the long haul..your basicaly just acknowledging a freq. change and calling the new center controller. I'm not a programmer but would there possibly be a way let's say to tell the program to answer ATC based on your input without you being present until you reach a certain fix. T/O from LAX bound for HNL and you speed up to 4x while flying if you want too; and as you get freq. changes..the program handles that for you...but let's say you want to be handling things for descent; then maybe based on what your flight plan had...you would tell the program when to stop answeriing the ATC stuff...maybe even pause the sim at that point..so when you come to your computer the plane is at your selcted fix say MAGGI or something..you unpause and fly the final portion of the flight. Just brainstormin. Kind of thought of this last night on this particular flight...was flying Concorde so didn't take too long anyway...plane keeps you rather busy at times. But rather than having to pause the sim so you didn't miss ATC..just prolongs the flight that much longer...that's how the idea coame into my crazy head. Sounds pretty crazy huh? Perhaps someone has already thoought of tis..not feasible..or I'm thinking way too much...and you'll tell me an easy way to handle this.:-)
    Thanks for listening.
    Best,
    Dave

Actually, the solution to this is simpler than all of that. If you want to step away from the computer while on a long distance flight, wait for a change of Center freq, acknowledge the change of freq, and set the freq on your radio but don't check in with the new controller. Then you can walk off. When you come back, check in with that controller and they will immediately hand you off to the correct controller for where ever you happen to be currently. Just make sure you acknowledge the change of freq or your flight plan will get cancelled and ATC will drop you. Of course, if that happens, now with FS9 you can just refile from where ever you pick it up again.
