What is a Yaw damper?

Good site Rat Race. From what I have worked out from that link, yaw damping is stability in Yaw and keeping a constant rate of it, which leads me to ask - what does the 'yaw damper' button do in jets?

It turns it on or off.

But so does the autopilot usually.
