Default Matching a plane and a panel....

I always thought that matching a plane with a panel is relatively a simple task....
I look for the plane I like and I download the best panel for that plane.....
But I have an "atrocious" doubt...
Let's say we download a plane that has 5 different flap positions (and hopefully modeled to behave in different way depending on the flap setting) and we match it with a panel that has only 3 flap positions (and different angles too compared to the aircraft)...what happen??? The gauge will give missreading??? Or the plane "is "forced" by the panel to assume different flap positions??? But the developer hasn't modeled the aircraft behaviour for that flap setting!!!!
Who get screwed in this process?? the plane or the panel??? or FS has an "automatic" way to "match" the 2???
Same thing can be said for sounds packages....
Thank you in advance for your answers!!!!

    Default My wild guess....

I Guess that FS behave this way:
It tries to "match" at the best the panel flap notches with the plane in term of order
Let's say the panel has only the 3 position but the plane has 5, you will not be able to get the 2 extra setting using that panel....same thing for the angle...if the first position in the flap gauge read 10 but the first position in the plane is 5 you will get the gauge reading 10 but in reality the flap position in the plane is 5....
Same concept with all the rest.....but still there is chance that something could get screwy.......
    What do you think guys????

there's other stuff too, but no idea what it is. When I merged the PSS A330 panel with the iFDG A320 there were all kinds of things going wrong with the autopilot, but I couldn't figure out what they were.

I used to fly an EMB-120 which if I remember right had 4 flap positions, but I had to use a B1900D panel, which only had 2 flap notches. The flap lever would move down the first two times I extended the flaps. On the next two flap extensions, the lever wouldn't move obviously since it was already at the lowest position.

So I still had all the flap positions of the A/C available, the panel just wasn't capable of showing it.

The entries in the aircraft cfg control the flap setup. It controls most things. Panel generally doesn't have anything to do with it. You can put a 747 panel in a Cessna. Should work just fine. Just that there's likely gonna be stuff that doesn't work in the panel because the aircraft cfg isn't configured for it.

Default So the panel are pretty much a way to

Interface with the Aicraft.cfg...which is a "correct" way to interpret the real world....through the cockpit you interface with an aircraft systems.......
About the example of the 747 panel in a Cessna, is like putting a Jaguar dashboard in a Toyota Echo, you have the electronic climate control console but totally useless (just for show) because you do not have such system in a little Toyota Echo
Simple and logical assumption I guess!!!

    Default However...

There are some controls that are in the panel...
For example you can have the same plane (let's say a 747) but two different panels, one simple one (for example the default one) and another way more sophisticated (for example with FMC, a sophisticated throttle control and other stuff) in that case the additional controls are in the panel itself.
Probably the basic controls (aileron, landing gear, engines) are in the plane configuration, but lots of other stuff are in the panel....
    Am I correct???
