Default THE VENERABLE J-3 PIPER CUB (AGAIN)

I finally got my wings in the FS9 Piper Cub. After cracking up, all over the place, I recieved instruction from John @ Martha King. Found them on my Windows Media player. There, under video clips, were a lot of things all about FS9. He demonstrated T.O. @ landings in the Cub. He flew it in virtual cockpit mode and in the cockpit mode of 0.75
resloution. It now can be flown like the real thing (ya know what I mean). I may be the last simmer to find this out, as I am sure you guys already know this. BUT an old dog still can learn some new tricks. "HAPPY LANDINGS" (finally) ;)

John & Martha must have made the instruction video before my Cub got screwed up. In fact my Cub isn't screwed up all the time, but just most of the time, if realism is at high settings. And it doesn't matter how good a tailwheel pilot I am..

In the meantime, I'm more than happy with the tailwheel RealAir Decathlon & Scout, as well as a new freeware Decathlon that's was just released. No more groundloop attempted takeoffs for me! :)

I took the Cub on the Flight of the Vin Fiz from NYC to LA. It takes some getting used to for sure but after some initial adjustment it's quite a kick to fly. Bill Lyons made a really nice Cub which is now freeware and a lot more stable but I actually prefer the default one merely because it is a bit more quirky and challenging.

Are you saying to use .75 zoom in the cockpit?

    Thank you.

    Trouble is..........

Mine get's so "quirky" sometimes, that the control surfaces have absolutely no effect when it has a mind of it's own. Yet it's an on & off thing, as if the programming get's screwed up. All my problems are on the ground though. Not in flight.

I figure that 3/4's of all Cub's would have been wiped out during the initial flight test, if this is the way it really was!

Hi, Yes I am. 0.75 that is. Got good vis.Just like sitting in rear seat. Forget to mention, on take off roll use no rudder, stick foward, tail comes rite up, now rudder OK. Take off. On landings, use three point , reduce power , hold it off, stick in you lap on touchdown, land at stall speed and not below. Now I land on beaches and roads. The other Cub versions are great also. However they dont get your attention like this FS9 Cub. In crosswinds I would tie down this Cub ,and lay on the grass , under its wing, and just dream about flying. Hello, As I recall my instructer sitting in the back of the Cub many moons ago, would rap me on my head if I was about to wreck his plane. On solo ,if he ever let you, ya still felt the wack on your noggon. SO crashes were infrequent. Actully the Cub was a joy to fly.It was THE primary trainer, it tought you all you needed to know. That along with a copy of "STICK AND RUDDER" byWolfgang Langewiesche, (With a handle like that he had to know what he was talking about),Many went on to captain airlines, many others went to bombers, and fighters. All may have very well started in those Cubs.
The FS9 Cub? well it looks great.Pick a windless day, fair weather, open your right door in flight.Fly low and slow, wave to the girles looking up at you. Why over the the food places ,ya can smell what to eat.In this cub,ya can see the cables move, look up through the top, and see the great blue younder. You may notice your in a cage of yellow tubeing, If ya look down ,to your right, thru the wing struts with the NO-STEP on them, and past your wheel on your landing gear, the groung going by, I swear ya can get the feeling , for no matter how breifly, That FS9 is mabey in fact "as real as it can get" (for now that is). Check out the seat in front of you,in the pocket there you will see some of those charts(i called them perswaders)
Well enough of this, However I know where a cub is, Ill check it out in the PM. MMMMMM! ya never know! The best to ya!Ladamson VIN

Even without wind, you have to anticipate the swing on takeoff and get right on the rudder or you're a lost cause. Throw in some wind and it can really get dicey but it is possible to get the hang of it eventually. Taxiing around with reasonably strong winds can be an adventure all in itself.
