    Default call signs

Can anyone tell me how to have ATC read my call signs and not only my flight number?

As it now, the ATC calls like this: "761, descend and maintain FL230", when it should be like this: "Lufthansa 761, descend and maintain FL230"

This happend with aircrafts and/or new liveries, not with default aircrafts and default liveries.

Have anyone else experienced the same?

You must have an entry in the fltsim.n section of the plane's aircraft.cfg file that reads:

    atc_airline=Lufthansa

(n is the number of the Lufthansa livery)

    Hope this helps,

In the real world it is quite common for ATC to call an aircraft using an abbreviated callsign once initial contact has been established.

I know the FS ATC will abbreviate GA callsigns, but I've never seen it doing it for any airline so far... ;)

Thanks. I already have this entry in all sections, but still.....

Another thing I didn't mention in the initial message is that I've made changes in the atc_flight_number section in the aircraft.cfg

Would this affect the calls from the ATC?

Yes, you're right about that Simon. And I think it is so in real world too. Two different airline companies may have the same flight number, but never the same name :)

    Viking,

Do you have EditVoicePack installed and updated? This could be a good solution to get the callsign to work (in fact, to make any callsign to work! :))

No, I have not. In fact, I've never heard about it before.
Is it freeware, or what? Where can I get it?

    Thanks :)

EditVoicePack is a nice utility that allows you to create your own callsigns that will be recognized by ATC (I'm talking about the actual "sound"). A lot of people worked on callsigns so far and upload them on a network that is use to update your voicepack. That means that there are now hundreds of callsign available so you don't have to actually create any new one, you just need to input them into your FS.

It is useful because sometimes you need to add more than a single line in the airlines.cfg file to add a callsign. In fact, FS will not know what to do with that line if there is no sound attached to it. That is what EditVoicePack is useful for.

I don't have the link to it right now, but search the web with Google and you should find it quickly!

I have Ultimate Traffic installed and before getting EVP, most of the airplanes were only called by their flight number. Now that EVP is installed, almost all of them have a complete callsign!

Edit: BTW, yes, it is freeware :)
