Default Panel problems, FS crash with some gauges.

    Hi,

I have a BIG problem with panels in FS2004. I know the problem comes from the gauges files because if i remove some gauges from the panels that crash FS it works. Recently i tried to install a Boeing 737-200 panel for the FFX 737. I could not find a panel here on flightsim that would work with my system. I tried every panel available for FS2002 and FS2004 with no luck.
Yesterday i installed Posky's A330 with VC. The panel didn't work. The gauge that crash everything for this specific panel is the autopilot gauge.

I getting tired of playing 3 hours with my panel file each time i install a panel. In the past two months on maybe 200 aircraft installed i had maybe about 10 panels working...

No problems with default panels and gauges and payware aicraft panels works without problems, even complex ones.

    Any ideas???

I'm running windows XP. Don't know if that could be the problem. I remember some time ago the RKG fuelstat gauges were updated for XP. Maybe XP has a problem with gauges.

    Thanks

    Pierre

I'm on Windows XP and have no "crash" problems...so I don't think that's it. Do you know which gauges are a problem in the other panels you spoke of?

For the 737 panel if i remember well i think it was some gauges starting by rp737... or something like that. Maybe it's old gauges from fs2000? I could make a list of non-working gauges but that would be too long... I have this problem since i run on XP. I had the same problem with fs2002. I'll change computer pretty soon and i hope this problem will not follow me... :)

That's just strange, Crash. Y'know what? I would suggest a clean install of FS9...I know...it's a #####, but something has gotten skewed, in there, and needs to be fixed.

That's what i think too. I'll clean my aircraft folder to keep what's important and reinstall.

    Thanks

    Hi Crash,

If you've only had 10 panels out of 200 that don't crash it does suggest a problem with your system. Apart from some FS2000 gauges which may well not work, most FS2002-era and later gauges should pose no problems, other than the obvious FS2002 GPS gauge which is known not to work in FS2004.

Regretfully, it sounds as if you will need to do a reinstall.

    Cheers,

    You mentioned problem with rp...gauges.
    That makes sense.
I am a panel designer and had many users used to tell me they had crashing problems. Apparently the crash is when some dudes copy just the gauges without copying the related sound that use them. I dont have any problems because I downloaded the full panels by Richard Probst (Not available anymore Fs2000 and Fs2002).

Richard Probst gauges are copyright and some have built-in sound in them. Other trimes they are just not compatible with working along side other gauges.

Instead of dealing with each crashing problem I just changed the gauges in my own designed panels and never had anyone report a similar problem again.

So, what it looks like is that either your NG or whatever panel you are using from some guy, is using Richard Probst gauges without even knowing or asking Richard about its codings and requirements.

    You have two options
    a) Search Panels for fs2000 and fs2002 by richard probst and downloaded them all. Copy the gauges to your Gauges directory.
    b) Ask the panel designer to change that gauge

Or...like I do. Try one thing (add-on) at a time. Ensure everything works before trying something else. If there is a problem, delete the offending add-on and try something else.

Install all gauges to the "panel" folder of the aircraft in question, that way if there is a problem, you haven't messed up your FS9 "gauges" folder and you KNOW where the problem, most likely, is. FS9 looks for "gauge" files in the aircrafts "panel" folder first, anyway.

    Prowler, on that topic:

First time I knew it searched the aircraft folder first. Thanks for that. Wondered why one of my addons came packaged like that..
Also, because I do want to start from scratch with a "clean" FS9 gauges folder, are you familiar with where to extract that from the cd's?? Thanks for any info..:7

The cause may be that gauges on your panels are programmed to work together with various direct link libraries (*.dll) that should reside in the Modules folder of FS9. Like Fsuipc.dll or FSSound.dll?
I actually released my Do128-& turboporp simulation in the FS2002 version without the FSsound.dll that Dai Griffith's Collins Radio set requires because I didn't realize that as I had fssound.dll installed in my modules folder. Made my first ever bugfix necessary...
