Thread: Mike Stone's New PBY

    Default Mike Stone's New PBY

Has anybody else tried Mike Stone's new PBY Catalina?

It a really nice plane, like all of his, but I can't get the flaps to work (Visual model.). I've tried every combination of flap type and flap system type, but to no avail.

I'd really like to get them working on this fine model.

    Thanks for any help.

    Regards,

    Paul

I don't believe the Catalina has flaps. I've been wrong before though, why should this be any different?

    You may be right!

The .cfg file has a "FLAPS" section, but maybe it's just filler??

I'll have to check out the reality of flaps or not on this plane.

    Many thanks for the tip,

    Paul

I think that you are correct on this.
I've been creating a few aircraft.cfg files lately and it seems tha FS9 can actualy add sections at some point. Probably when it's reading the file.
    Flaps being one of them.
The operative in the Pby's aircraft.cfg is:
    Flaps.0
    type=0 // meaning that there aren't any.

I also hope that people catch the fact about the default DC-3 gauges in his readme so that all of the gauges display properly. The proper cab file can also be copied to the PBY's panel folder and work properly.

    Thanks, Bilbo.

    That helps.

Pretty sure this ol' gal didn't have flaps. She was so slow guess they figured none were necessary. The stock PW 1200hp radials couldn't get her much above 127knts. Anyway, never seen any deployed or even any visual indication of their presence on the pics I've seen of her.

I have an older FS2002 PBY 5A that also has no flaps.

    It looks like you're right.

I had an FS2002 PBY but must not have flown it because I don't remember flaps or not.

You guys have been a real help. I think I'll just believe it doesn't have them.

    Thanks,

    Paul

There are a couple of these old girls parked at Cassidy (Nanaimo BC CYCD) undergoing some sort of restoration programme. Next time I'm up there I'll take photo's and post one here.

Is that PBY the one from Australia? If so, I emailed them and they did say that plane had no flaps.

Interesting outfit. They have a real PBY running.
