    Default FORCE FEEDBACK 2 JOYSTICK

    HI

I am at my wits end trying to get the FF2 joystick to work with FS9.

I cannot get the sensitivities settings to work. The aircraft on the ground swings all over the place and mostly ignores the FF2 commands. The problem lies - not with the buttons, they all function very well - but with the lateral and vertical movement of the joystick (rudder control etc). The aircraft does not respond to the joystick as I would have expected.

Is there a fundamental problem with FF2 and FS9? I believe MS have inhibited the force feedback part but what about the rest? OR, am I missing something?

Any help/comments would be much appreciated. I have discussed the prob with MS but they were not helpful.

No! My MSSWFFB2 stick is brilliant in FS9. That is when the aircraft's FM has been built by a FFB2 stick user. Unfortunately, many aircraft designers just ignore the FFB adjustments probably cause they don't have a FFB stick or have some other FFB stick that doesn't model the forces correctly. That effect is built into the airfile. My suggestion, find a similar aircraft that has a good feel and swap out the airfiles and learn how to reconfigure the aircraft cfg. file to adjust for the new airfile.

I've got at least a hundred aircraft in my hanger. Every one has great FFB feel to it and they all fly very nicely now with terrific FFB or they wouldn't be on my harddrive. I wouldn't even want to venture a guess on how many hours I have into tweaking for FFB. Someday, I'll learn how to adjust the forces in the airfile itself. Might just be easier. Microsoft has not done away with the great forces available; the designers have just neglected the FFB adjustments that can be had.

I sent you an e-mail -- let me know how it works. Won't post any info here until I know it works for you.

I couldn't get decent force feedback with FS9 until I invested in the FS Force software add-on: http://www.dirks-software.ca/fs-force/

I suspect that software just tells the aircraft what ffb settings to use and overrides the original settings in the airfile. I get all the effects mentioned in that link without that software. I just have to work at it a little bit sometimes. Finding that airfile that is just right is sometimes a chore. Much of the heavy aircraft have everything set up right for ffb effects. It's the small aircraft that a lot of the time have no effects built in. I could name half dozen military jets that initially flew like a feather that now fly very nicely with a different airfile and tweaks to the aircraft cfg.

    HI guys

many thanks for all your suggestions. Apologies for the late response but hav been away flying at work

Gary, I have found a solution but quite by accident! I have just built another computer and the new MBO has USB2 with Enhanced Host Controller Interface. I plugged the FF2 in ans Bingo!! it works like dream. I have heard that the FF2 can be a little tempremental with some USB ports

Anyway all is well so many thanks to all who responded
