Default New Panels and eliminate default Virtual Cockpits

I have recently added a very good and accurate new panel for the default B737-400, which comes with it's own 3D views for all around the cockpit.

Boeing 737-700/800/900 NG Panel V.1 By Targan UNUTMAZ

However, since I installed it (as instructed) in the default B737-400 panel folder, the old VC views still appear outside the windows of the new panel views. It is annoying and truly unusable this way.

I have looked and read as much on the topic of installing new panels, but the only mention I have found about the default VC's is that they are part of the aircraft's model file and can NOT be edited or removed.

    Is this really true?
Is there an entry in any of the config files I should be entering to make this panel work the way it was designed?

Any information on topic will be much appreciated.
    Thanks,

In the FS9.cfg file under the Graphics section, make See_Self=0

    Thanks so much Mike.
I'm at work now, but as soon as I get home I will give your suggestion a try.

    Mike:

    It worked!
Thanks so much again for the good advice.

I was able to keep the virtual cockpit view, but it no longer interferes when looking left or right from within the main panel view.

Only hassle now - but I can live with it - is that if I switch airplanes to fly the B747, there's no 3D views when looking around from within the main panel view. But again, no big problem for me, since I fly mostly 99% with the B737.

    Best wishes,

Frank's suggestion is excellent but only applies to those "problem" aircraft. For the correct views in default or "non-problem" aircraft you will have to set the setting back to "1". S-I-G-H...I know, it's a pain, but it works.

    Thanks Frank.

Take a look at this thread and pay partiular attention to reply #20 by DouglasK. It works, I tried it. This allows you to remove the VC only from the planes you wish. Do a search on Google for "hex editor" and you'll find a good freeware one there.

Only problem with all the above solutions, is by doing either of the above, you loose you're landing and taxi lights while in the 2D cockpit view... I prefer this solution, suggested by FlytheSpitfire...

One think you could do, is get active camera, and when you are in the inside of the virtual cockpit move backwards so that you are no longer in the virtual cockpit, but behind it in the free space, and then it is no longer visable when you look left or right!

    Hope this helps!

    RJ below is correct.

I did the edit of the mdl file with Hex Editor as instructed in the very detailed and well-explained forum chain at Avsim on this topic, BUT - I did loose my landing lights, and that's not an acceptable trade-off.

There is mention that changing the 1st appearance of the string removes AC shadows, and that the 2nd instance removes the VC.

Did that, but no landing lights now.

I am not too convinced about moving the eye-view reference points "out of the way" as a final solution. Though a fix, and I appreciate the alternate solution, it does not seem to be as clean a fix as removing the VC altogether as the post and link from Millj suggests.

Any ideas how I can get the landing lights back?

Thanks guys, this has been a great thread and most instructive so far!
