Thread: Modifying aircraft cfg files

    Default Modifying aircraft cfg files

I noticed some people are mentioning to modify the aircraft config file to increase brake power or change cruise speed etc. I try to do this on my aircraft but I cant seem to open the config file. I am getting to the file through fs9/aircraft/(aircraft name)/aircraft.cfg
If this is the correct area, how do I modify the file?, or should I be looking somewhere else for the proper file to modify.
    Thanks for any help

I´m also interested in that subject, as I have a problem with all my DC 10-30, which at cruise altitude (let´s say 35.000 ft.) and 290 IAS, they all fly with a 7º nose high attitude. I guess this is too much, and it bothers me, as I have the feeling of a neverending climb instead of level flight. I wish to change this and make my DC 10s fly with a 2º or 3º nose up attitude.

    Yes, that's the location/filename.
You can open/edit the aircraft.cfg with any plain texteditor, like Windows Notepad.

Note however, that you cannot edit ALL aircraft characteristics in the aircraft.cfg file; some things can only be changed in the .air file of the aircraft (with a special program, like AirEd)

Thx. The only Aired file I´ve been able to find is one for Fs98 and 2000. Does it still work for FS9?

A good (freeware) program for editing the .air file is called AirED.
You can download the latest version (1.52) at:

You also need the latest aired.ini file (14 oct. 2003), which can be dowloaded at:
    http://perso.wanadoo.fr/hsors/FS_Soft/

    Works for FS98/2000/2002/2004

The aircraft.cfg file is a simple text file. To open, (Shift) + right-click the file and select open with and, when prompted, select Notepad and tick the Always use this program ... box. Then click OK.

From now on, you can double-click any aircraft.cfg file and it will open in Notepad.

As to the actual modifications - that's another story !

    Cheers,
