Set the options to the minimums in FS.

    Run it.

You'll get either get liquid smooth performance, and be able to start increasing settings from there, or you'll discover that you've got a system problem.

In that case, do the usual. Defrag, make sure nothings running in the background, try different drivers, etc.

something is definately wrong. On my old GEForce 4 MMX card I was getting at least 20 FPS, now I average about thirty with the FX 5600.

Ok... Here goes... My experiance.. Please don't be mad at me.. But this is what I had to go thru to get good FPS!!.

Ok.. Not the 5200, nor the 5600 are extremly great Graphic cards..

I had a MX440, ATI 9000, then a 9200, then a 5600. Of them all, i was most impressed with the 9200. then the 9000, the 5600 came in last!!.. I bought the thing for a real bargin.. It was advertised as 256meg ram..bla bla bla... It was not good.. I did some research.. Toms hardware... Well, there are a few flavours of the 5600... The only one worth anything, is the 5600 ULTRA.. The 5200, will prob run a wee bit faster that the 440.. If you hade a TI4200, and upgraded to a 5600, I bet you, you are not a happy chap.. The 4200 is actully faster that the normal 5600.. I did test. 9200 vs 5600.. And the OLD 9200, kicked the living ##### out of the 5600. So, I ended up buying myself a 9600XT... NOW I'm happy.. I spend a little bit more, but boy... WAS IT WORTH IT!!.. It's still not top of the range... But for the money I spend.. Not even the 440 compared to $ vs FPS. Simpel equation : How much does one Frame cost?

The size of the PC to a certain extend does have some impact, but as we all know.. GPU!!! So...My conclusion...

The 5200 is running as it sould.. The 5600 is running as it sould.. Don't expect mirricles from it.. Get yourself a copy of 3Dmarks, and compare your systems to others with the same spec... You will be shocked!!!

just my 5cents worht of info.. Happy flying!!

I'm hoping you wrote it wrong, do you really have a PCI card? Not AGP but PCI?

If so, then it's all too normal to get 10fps, and even if it's AGP, it's just a little lower than what you should get. 5200 is really crappy I'm sorry to say, try ATI! I have a Ti4200 with AGP8X, it's really good. And if I had to buy a new graphics card, it would be 9600XT without a doubt.

Without knowing anything about your graphic settings, I can just tell you that the 5200 seems to be a crappy video card for FS. My brother has a P4 2.4ghz system with a 5200 card and I can't get his FS2002 to do much better than 15 FPS - and that's with quite a few sliders brought down. I did much better with FS2002 on my old 1.9ghz system with a TI4600 ultra card. - Matt D.

The 5200 is the ghetto card of the FX series, don't expect much from it as it won't deliver. The 5600 and 5600 Ultra are not far behind in lack of performance. I owned a 5600 Ultra and never got above 10 to 12 FPS around an airport with lots of scenery. With that said, I got tired and purchased a 5900XT and got it last week.

Well, my performance issues are now gone, I can crank things up and only suffer minimal FPS decreases. I've not maxed everything out but I can tell you that the 5900XT provides a significant difference when it comes to performance. The same can be said with COD (Call of Duty), the FPS were ok before but after the change, the image quality and FPS are incredible.

Don't waste your money with a TI card, why go back in time when you can spend the same amount of money and purchase something with today's standards. A 9600XT from ATI will cost you about $150 and it will out perform the 5200 and 5600. A 5900XT will run about $180 and will smoke the 5200, 5600, and 9600XT. The 5900XT comes with 8 pipes instead of 4 like 5200, 5600, 9600XT and its memory interface is 256-bit versus 128-bit for the other cards.

Something is wrong on your system.

My previous was P3 1000 with GeF4 Ti4200 and was running settings about like this and getting about 15fps:
