Thread: FPS goes way down after landings

Default FPS goes way down after landings

This is a weird bug I've noticed in both my old system and new system.

I'll be flying OK with normal frame rates. As soon as I touch down, my Frame rates go to 1.6 FPS. They stay that way until I takeoff again at which time they are normal. The only way to fix it is to exit FS2004 and start again.

My specs are: CPU:AMD 2800+, MB: Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe, 1 GB Corsair RAM, ATI 9800 Pro (128)with 4.1 drivers.

I had the same problem with my old system which had a GeForce 2. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    TIA

Sounds normal to me, (that your fps are lower on the ground), although the 1.6 fps seems really low. Your computer is going to have to work harder to render the more detailed scenery on the ground than it will when you are airborne.

You may need to cut back some on your sliders to get the fps up.

Are you using the same joystick?

Yes, it is the same joystick I am using (Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro).

This slowdown happens once in a while. Most of the time the frame rates are just fine. It seems like a bug. The only variable that is the same between my two systems is the joystick.

I don't think that sliders have anything to do with this issue. 1.6 FPS is very slow. It happens occasionally. It's really bad if you've been flying for a while and you get this problem when you land.

    Any ideas?

    TIA

Wasn't there a post, recently, about "ground bumps" and Force-Feedback joysticks? I believe the answer was to turn off "ground bumps"? Don't know for sure...don't use an FF joystick.

Yeah, it seems like it might be a ground effects problem with the force feedback. Try disabling force feedback within FS and see if that fixes it. I've heard of cases where that exact thing happened to other flyers, and disabling FFB was the only way to solve the problem.

    Hey scammy...

Agree with prowler3... turn off the "Ground Bumps" in your joystick/force feedback settings in FS9 and see if that cures your problem. No need to disable entire force feedback, just the ground bumps.

    Later!

I'll disbale the ground bumps and see if it helps. I'll keep you posted.
