    Default Editing VoicePaks

I fly for a virtual airline. The other day, one of the guys on the site posted a voicepak, specifically designed for our VA. I installed all the software and the voicepak and edited my aircraft.cfg file and it's awesome. However...

After having made the thing work properly "right out of the box," now I can't make things work again for another voicepak.

When I start EditVoicepak, it just sits there with a message saying "reading voicepaks" and the menu options (three of them) all remain "greyed out." I waited even during lunch and still nothing happens. Task manager says the program is running but it never took this long the first time.

I tried to visit the site listed in the docs, but I got a "page not found." Anyone know maybe why the thing won't work any more?

    Hello

Well, you've really grabbed hold of a tiger there. EditVoicePack defies every semblence of human logic. The layout is about as illogical as possible. I finally had to give up on EditVoicePack and it was driving me up the wall. The only thing I do with it is log on to the Internet, open EditVoicePack and let it automatically download the updater file every now and then. And that's it. This is one of the all-time great frustrations for me. And the so-called help file only makes matters worse. You really need to be in that genius category to know how to get clever with this program.

wish I had a solution for you

For problems opening EditVoicepack, please see http://www.flightsimmer.com/forums/s...&threadid=8247

It has never happened on my system, hence I can't fix it. If it ever happens I should be able to debug the problem.

I know enough about user interface design to know there are a few odd things in EditVoicepack. But I don't have time to do anything about it. But from a few odd things to "defies every semblence of human logic" there is quite a way and I simply do not agree. If you have suggestions on how it should be done, by all means let me know. If all you can say is "it's wrong" without any suggestions on how it could be doen better your statement is simply useless as I can't improve anything based on it.

True, I am not a professional writer, so the help file could have been better - again, time is not a luxary I have, hence it must stay as it is.

The EditVoicepack home page contains a couple of tutorials that will teach people to do a callsign in 15 minutes. Unfortunately the server is currently down, as you can read here:

    Hi,

Once I figured out to RIGHT CLICK the headings on the left, then all became easy and logical.

    Hope this helps,

EditVoicePak is a fantastic freeware package, one of the best available for FS2004.

I once had a problem with a 3rd-party voicepak addon, and Lars (the magic behind EditVoicePak) worked me through the issue until we determined that the addon had been improperly coded.

Henceforth I rely solely on the automatic updates that Lars so generously provides.

The first time I ran the program it worked fine. This time I can't right click or left click on *anything*. Everything stays grayed out except the message at the bottom that says "reading voicepacks."

I looked at the URLs you provided in your response. I do have those two .gvp files present in my FS9/Sound folder. I also uninstalled MyTraffic - I wasn't using it anyway.

I'll keep my eye on that forum. I guess somewhere in there you provide a link to your server, when it comes back online. In the meantime, I'll just enjoy what I have until I can get cranking on new voices again.

By the way, does your site provide any tutorials or info on how to create ones own files?
Thanks for your help, input and potential advice.

    Hi Art,

You MUST replace the GVP files in the Sound folder with the originals from the FS CD before you are going to get this to work. My Traffic messes them up permanently.

    Hope this helps,

Ironically, it was *after* I had installed MyTraffic that I installed (successfully) the voice mod for my VA airlines. EditVoicepack worked properly at that time. At any rate.

I took your advice this afternoon, dug out the .gvp files from the .cabs and reinserted them into the root FS9 directory. The EditVoicepack now functions properly - again! Hooray!

Had another dumb question - read the user's guide. Color me embarrassed - got another of the airlines working now. I'm truly in hog heaven!
