Default FS gone whack, please help

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with FS-COF, the problem is that when I am flying some aircraft in the sim the game itself will do some type of illegal operation. The screen goes black and like the resolution goes whack and it brings me to my desktop with FS still going in the backround(or at least the sounds) and the colors are all weird. It gives me a message saying that there has been a device failure and the computer must be rebooted in order to continue work. Thats not the exact message but I dont feel like flying an airplane and having the system do it itentionally so i can write the message out. I dont get it, all the default aircraft work fine when i fly but only when i have certain addon sceneries and aircraft it does it.

It may be that the answer could be in your question...defaults work fine..certain add on scenery and aircraft "does it".

    What are your system specs?
    Waht add on scenery?
    What add on aircraf?

I for one have had to reinstall FS many a time after downloading the perfect panel and perfect solution to every wish, dream and problem.

    My system specs are:
    Pentium 4 with 2.66 GHz
    512MB of RAM
    Intel 82865G Graphics card

The scenery that I used was the Napuvolta Naples scenery(all of the ones you can d/l). That was really the only scenery I used that no matter what aircraft, default or add-on, that it gave me the message. But it pretty much happens when I use the add-on aircraft such as:
    Project Opensky CRJ-200 w/FS9 update
    Project Opensky 757-200
    Maule M7-260

I had more aircraft like a great Bell LongRanger model and another helicopter which was I believe a EuroCopter(both are at www.hovercontrol.com under the best of the best copters)

Its confusing because sometimes I can fly the aircraft without incident but other times I cant even get the plane to load into the sim before I get the message. And when I can fly it it might choose to go crazy at the most inopertune time.

Since I'm not to computer savvy as far as what you wanted for specs I know I probably left stuff out so if I did can you tell me what else you need to know.

Since you say it happens with addons you may be asking too much of your RAM and Graphics card.

Sounds to me like that video chip isn't going to be very tolerant of FS2004 itself, let alone system hogging addons.

I have to agree with Z...you don't have a "graphics card", with it's own memory...you have a graphics chipset,on the MOBO, with no memory of it's own.

You will be hard pressed to make addons work well.

Maybe more RAM would help? What do you think, gang?
(I'd get a good graphics card and disable the onboard, myself).

A driver update for the video chipset might possibly help.

He really needs a real videocard though.

It's somewhat doubtful that would even be an option on that system though.

Probably doesn't even have an AGP slot.

A high end PCI card could possibly solve the problem too, but that sure wouldn't make much of a performance gain, if any.

It MAY help as far as general "runability" though.

Even this option may not be possible if it's like many "store bought" machines - they often demand proprietary hardware only.
