    Default ViewSonic "UltraBirte" feature?

Hi, I'm in the market for a new CRT monitor. I see ViewSonic has an UltraBrite button which one user at newegg.com described:

"There is a button on the front for maxing out the contrast, brightness and color with one touch when playing games without disturbing your regular settings."

Anbody here have one of these monitors? I am wondering if when flying in 3D cockpit and the sun/shade angle causes panel to darken badly, if just hitting that button on the Viewsonic would make the gauges suddenly easier to read :-hmmm ?

Don't know about the monitor, but I find that turning on the cockpit lights has that exact effect...

Lol, sounds like a sarcastic reply, not meant that way...

Yep, L helps, but not enough. Sometimes in strong shadows I still can't read any of the dials regardless of panel lights. Cranking up monitor settings helps, but I'm out of range on my old one...

Hi Al I have the Viewsonic A90f+ which is the 19 inch and the ultrabright feature is great, I find myself not only using it for flightsimulator but for other games that have shadows and alike as well. Also I might add, if you watch any movies on your computer it makes them look stunning :) youll prob have the lowest price on newegg, good luck :)

Check out the NEC FP912SB, it has two "ultrabright" modes on it. I use mode 1 for games, movies, and viewing pictures. It doesn't really brighten it, but it boosts the color and contrast to make things look better. Mode 2 does the same as mode one, but it does bost the brightness a bit which is good for those games that just look too dark.

When I was doing my research for a new 19" monitor, I narrowed it down to a viewsonic, samsung, and this one. Every review I read could not find one thing to complain about, but what sold me on this monitor was reading owner comments over at HardForum.

I bought mine from Dell, as luck had it they were on sale. They normally run around $300, but I got it for $256 with free shipping.

Thanks for that: NEC FP912SB. Definately seems to be a cult developing over this screen at Hardforum (a forum I was unaware of thanks again). I was going to get the best Viewsonic at NewEgg until reading your advice.

Trouble is now they got me looking at the more expensive 22" models where the two worshipped CRT's seem to be Nec2141 and Ilyama 514.

Being a 3D goggles geek, I must avoid all LCDs. Although at Stereovision.net I recall mention of a 42 inch plasma TV that is recomended for stereo (has 120 Hz Vert refresh rate, the only brand that does, I think it was NEC) but I could buy wife Cathy a pretty good used car for that much dough :/

    Edit: Liyama 514

If your looking for the best CRT monitor you can get...than here it is.

It is nothing cheap but it is the best CRT you can get. You simply won't find anything better.

    But it is expensive...

The ViewSonic "UltraBrite" mode really makes a difference in FS2004 for me. The The A90f+ is really a great all-round monitor, though I'm just about to trade up for the P95f+ which offers some enhanced features.

I have the Viewsonic A90f+ with the "ultrabrite" feature. I never use it. It increases brightness and contrast at the expense of sharpness. Gauges and text are more blurry when you use it.

It's not a function I ever use, I adjust the settings to my taste.

Well am learning lots about CRTs here. You folks in Britain, probably already know the highest CRT refresh rates come with iiyama brand (note I finally spelled it right, lol).

On this side of pond, I'm learning just how highly regarded NEC/Mitsu multiscans are, always knew that ViewSonics were popular and highly regarded.

Judging from what I am reading perhaps Sony branded monitors often provide the very best image geometry and text readibility, but not the highest refresh rates.

Sorry to harp so much about refresh rates, but contantly use stereo shutter goggles where the rates are halved, and thus become the overiding consideration. Because for instance half of 85 is 42 :( but half of 160 = 80 :)
