Hi all-
It's that time of year again! I'm posting to announce the Second Annual Flightsim.com vs. Avsim.com Around the World Race. As many of you remember from last year, this is a race we conduct between the forums of Flightsim and Avsim. The objective of each forum is to fly all the way around the world (and authenticate your flights) before the other one does. In order to fly a leg, you simply need to load up Flight Simulator with an appropriate aircraft (details of what aircraft are appropriate or not will be in the rules posted at the start of the race) and fly from the airport your team left off at to another one, preferably in the general direction your team is heading around the world. After you have completed your flight, you must take a screen shot on the ground at your destination airport with the GPS window open, showing the route of flight. You then post this screenshot to the forum to authenticate your flight. At this point, another forum member takes up the “baton” and continues the flight. Again, there will be full instructions and specific rules which take into account (hopefully) all eventualities posted at the start of the race. The above is simply to give potential race participants an idea of how things work.
Last year we had a wonderful race with great participation on both sides. In the end, Avsim pulled ahead and beat Flightsim by a full 10 hours, giving them the win. The final leg was flown simultaneously by both forums over VATSIM and was a great moment of togetherness in the online flightsimming community.
The title of Fastest Forum Around the World is again up for grabs, however. Will Avsim be able to hold onto its title? Or can Flightsim pull off an upset victory? Only time will tell. One thing, however, is certain:
The race begins next Sunday, 15, at 12:00 Noon, EDT. Full rules will be posted at that time.
I look forward to another great race. If anyone has any questions on or suggestions for the race, I'd be happy to hear from them. You can reach me either through e-mail at mattsmith19@adelphia.net or over AOL Instant Messenger on the ScreenName RightFlankr.
Thanks for reading, and good luck to both sides!
Regards-
