Thread: FS2004 GPS: ILS Heading/VOR Frequency?

  1. Default FS2004 GPS: ILS Heading/VOR Frequency?

    Hi everybody,

using the two new GPS gadgets in Flight Simulator 2004, I know it's possible to retrieve the ILS frequencies of the destination airport runways.

I'd like to know if there are also any means of getting the runway headings and the airport VOR from the default FS2004 GPS?

I think it would be really neat and useful if you didn't have to halt the simulation to pull up the world map, having to write down all necessary frequencies et c.

    Any hints are appreciated!

    Seasons greetings,
    Peter

If you planned your flight ahead of time, you'd have the frequencies already written down. I use FSNav, which is a lot easier to find frequencies than the GPS. I haven't messed with the GPS enough to see what all it does.

This is one of the great advantages of running FS Navigator - all those frequencies and runway headings are all right there for you without the strain of mid flight planning. Ideal for those "get-up-and-go" simmers who don't want to spend lots of time in the planning room. I would not be without it and this is one of the reasons why. More information here:-

As a modular program i.e. part of FS9 you won't need FSUIPC for FS Navigator to run. It is payware.

Hi, those who know me will know as well that IŽd rather quite simming than using the default GPS, but as it does remind remotely of the Reality XP GNS 530 I may help. YouŽll find all the airport information you requested on the different waypoint pages (just enter the airport in question in the APT filed of the first waypoint page by pushing the right knob). Navaids arenŽt listed for airports, only comm and ils frequencies, but the nearest pages should help you determine the frequencies of nearby VORs.

    Hi Uwe,

thanks for your help. I've taken a closer look at the waypoint pages, just like you suggested. Here's what the page showing the ILS frequencies look like:

    [IMG SRC="http://www.acc.umu.se/~petah/fs2002/gps.JPG" ALT="GPS"]
However, I can't find the actual runway headings. I'd like to bring up the GPS in midflight, look up the ILS frequencies and the corresponding runway headings just by using the FS2004 default GPS. Is it at all possible?

    Thanks,
    Peter

i might be wrong with this, but from what i understand, rwy 32 would be a heading 320 wouldn't it? coming the other way, the rwy heading would be 140, rwy 14. no?

Hi Peter, my mistake! I was sure that the second waypoint page of the default GPS showed the runway ident AND true heading. On the Reality XP GNS 530 IŽd point with the cursor arrow on the runway in question, but this is not possible in the default GPS (this time I checked!). For a runway with a precision or non-precision approach you could choose a vectored approach to that runway and read the final course fairly accurate from the flightplan, but I havenŽt a good idea how to determine the runway heading of runways that have no procedures with the default GPS only. Sorry.

    Uwe,

no problem. :) You did your best, and that's what counts! Thanks anyway. Hopefully, I'll come up with something no one here seems to know (it this is at all possible, but given all sorts of information that the FS2004 GPS seems to be able to pull about, I would be really surprised if there aren't any means of getting the most crucial information about airport runways, including headings).

    Regards,
    Peter

yep, you're right about the runway headings, but it wasn't the answer he was looking for I think.
