    Default Ghost Aircraft?

Downloaded Key West Airport Scenery. The developer has included some flights in the Scenery. Yet! As I sit by the side of the runway, waiting to do some plane spotting, nothing arrives. Nothing leaves either, as there are no aircraft parked on the ramps, except the default aircraft. They leave, but never return. Now I'm pretty sure it's my fault that the pilots went on Strike, What am I missing, or have failed to install properly. ----- My last thread on this airport scenery included a picture of what appears to be a small fence around this airport that I think is substituted for a missing texture. I have uninstalled all the "must have scenery" and texture files, and reinstalled them. I have uninstalled the Key west airport, deleted it, downloaded it again, and reinstalled it. Alas! The fence persists. I have E-Mailed the author about this problem, no response yet. Now there's tons of scenery out there, but this is my scenery installation debut, and I ain't movin on till I get it right. Fellow Simmers, help me out here.

When you uninstall/reinstall flight simulator, there may be residual folders left in the uninstall if you added any third party aircraft, scenery, or other files. The best way to uninstall is to use the Control Panel, add/remove programs menu. Once the normal uninstall is completed, use Windows Explorer to delete any residual files and folders to ensure a complete removal.

Since you didn't indicate which Key West scenery file, I searched and found one by J. C. McCormick (Capt Cargo). As JC indicated, the scenery was made with FSSC 1.5.9 and it is basically FS2002/FS2004 compatible, probably more compatible with FS2002. He even provides an FS2002 AFCAD file, which will not work in FS2004. If you need to add additional parking spots, you would need to use AFCAD for FS2004, Afcad211.zip. There is an FS2004 afcad file for KEYW, ramp+keyw.zip, that may or may not interfere with this scenery.

I temporarily installed the above scenery in FS2004. I believe it is probably a texture file (possibly m-hedge.r8 or fence.pat) that doesn't work in FS2004. Otherwise, the scenery is quite detailed. As I don't have all the "must have" textures in my FS2004 folders, I see additional missing textures. I get large blank textures, possibly the palm trees shown in your screen shot.

As far as missing flights, you need to use AITM http://www.molitor-home.de/FS/AITM or TTools, ttools202.zip, to add them to your traffic file. You will also need to download the aircraft and install them into your aircraft folder.

The fence works fine in my version of the same scenery and I have FS9 but the original poster, Bill, has seen all my screenies on this one so I'm gonna gracefully bow out now. Hope you do find a solution.

Hope those ghost aircraft you speak of are nothing to do with LCD displays :) - refers to another thread in here.

AHAH!!! ........I ain't alone. While looking through the scenery files to see if Capt. Cargo had any added fixes for his Key West scenery, I noticed some dude had posted a splash screen of Capt. Cargos scenery with a Grumman Goose flying over it. He's got the same little fences that I have. Even in the bitmap photo that J. McCormic has of his scenery (the early version, before the palm tree fix) I see the white slabs. ........Dave! You said you didn't have the little fence, what do you have? The previous poster mentioned a texture file that might be missing. Where do I get it? .....I'm not sure what I have to do to activate the flights and aircraft that come with the scenery. I need help in this area. .......Dave you seem to have a lot of aircraft on the ground and movin around in your screenshots, I dont get anything but the default planes. .......You people have been great with your support, and I should get a life and do something creative besides monitoring this forum, waiting for your answers.

Hello Bill... well I was going to leave this to somene who may be better equipped to offer a solution because although I have the fence I really don't have the expertise with scenery design to know where it actually comes from. Oh while we are here and to turn you a darker shade of green (with envy :)) I have a tower too - think we may have been looking for this in previous posts - just noticed it this morning, forgive me if I'm in error here though! it's very early in the morning here after all).

The traffic you see which do act as normal AI traffic here is courtesy of My Traffic. I always tell folk in here that it is great for those out-of-the-way airports that have mainly GA traffic, I do have MT upgraded for additional GA traffic though (the necessary file to do this is available free on their site).

Well ready steady go! - here's a few shots of that illusive fence and one of the tower for you to gloat over mate (don't you just love those little green weeds growing at the base of the fence... heheheh...)

Believe it or not, I am releived. At least now I have a target to shoot for. I know there is nothing wrong with the file. I just have to find the software to render it. ....To this end, I am open to any and all suggestions. ...Thanks for the continued attention.

Ah I see you are awake at this time (whatever that may be in your neck of the woods) too....

All I can tell you is I have stuffed as many additional scenery textures as I can find into my sim's main texture folder. I do find putting the commonly used textures in this main FS9 Texture folder has managed to solve similar problems to what you are experiencing in the past... you may remember this was how we managed to get those darnn trees in this addon to show up too... it may well be something similar. Try, just for a lark, copying ALL the textures that came anlong with KEYW scenery into your main FS9 texture folder - you can't do any damage here just make sure you don't overwrite anything in there though!

    Worth a shot mate....

I am stuffing additional scenery textures in my main texture file too. So far I have these, novatxt1, novatxt2, novatxt3, novagt1, asd21txt, aip210tx, txtur202, vodtex26, vodtex27, vodtex30, vodtext. When I display the properties of the texture file I get a file count of 1473. Are there anymore texture files I may need, or is there a program or utility necessary to render all the ones I have. A previous poster said possibly the texture (m-hedge. r8) won't display in FS2004, Why? .....Dave you've been a great help with your suggestions and screenies, now if the rest of you Simmers have any suggestions at all, I'm a sponge here. Let em rip................................STUPID FENCE!!!!....Holy #####!! You have the control tower? I don't, the fence seems small by comparison.

WOW Bill - you have more textures than me now :)

Thought you had missed my comments on the tower too in previous posts I was :-eek too...

No "rendering" utility or program is required - FS9 does a good job for most on the rendering of the textures - if they are present and in the right place then they should work their way to your monitor screen...

Pity the designer bloke did not come back to you with any suggestions but you said his shots also show the "no-fence" syndrome so he's maybe as guffed as you are... Guess I have just been rather lucky with this one and can't chalk up another experience or expertise factor especially as that tower came to life all on it's own.

If the designer ever gets in here I'd give one tip and that's to get some form of beta testing done before making the scenery available for public use. I have just completed about three weeks beta tests for that scenery mentioned under the Western Australia thread and boy did the team find quite a few creases that needed to be ironed out before it was put up on the web board. Well worth it in the end and great fun too, more brains and computer rigs are better than just the one after all even if you just ask a mate to take a spin through it.

Now I've done it! Loading and unloading all the texture files, I've lost those nice taxiway lights. I'm back to little gray slabs. Still no response from the designer (Captain Cargo). I guess He doesn't care for us dummies.-------I'm still in the no fly zone when it comes to getting his AI traffic to work. I've downloaded and installed Traffic tools, but I'm not sure what to do with it.
